The Best Thing About Gastric Bypass for me---

Recommended Posts

I am NEVER hungry! I rarely even think about food except to quickly track my Protein.

It is such a change from pre-op where I felt that my whole life revolved around food!

I know this won't last forever(or so I have read), but I hope it sticks around for as long as possible!

When did you have your surgery?

I too was super excited about never being hungry....

But the last month or so I get super bad stomach aches around 2-4ish... I thought it was from sitting all day and built up air.

It was only a few days ago that it dawned on me that it's because I'm hungry!

It's a different kind of hunger pain, that's why it took me so long to figure it out.

I'm 4 months out.

As soon as I realized this and ate a small snack during this time - the pains resolved.

Weird, I know. Lol

I felt kinda silly for not realizing it sooner!

Good luck to you. Hopefully you'll never get hungry again!

Yeah, the hunger does come back but it's not as intense and I can satisfy it with just a bit of food. Before surgery, I would get really bad headaches when I got too hungry and it would take a couple of days to get rid of the headaches. The hunger does stay away for at least a year so that's good news!! Though I am sure everyone is a bit different so your mileage may vary.

I am a gastric bypass person too. My hunger came back at the 4 month mark but it really does feel different. It's not that gnawing hunger that it used to be and I can make it go away with just a few bites of food or a cup of milk.

If you are bypass it will return but it will be different. Some people are lucky and it doesn't come back for a very long time?

I also will say that being full now is very different from being full prior to surgery. I swear I used to stuff myself so darn full before surgery that I would literally feel sick. Now, I am satisfied with so little and will stay that way for a long time as long as I am earring Protein dense foods.

My surgeon said to be aware that sometimes it can be confused with nausea but it's really an empty and hungry pouch.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
