Well here goes and let the journey begin. I had my procedure Monday morning. I don't really remember much till about mid afternoon on Monday. I was very groggy and nauseous. I wound up with the dry heaves for about 24 hours. Not real fun. But since I been home things are settling down and I feel pretty good. Drinking going well. Gas is a flowing. Sometimes painful. But otherwise good.

Welcome to the "losers' bench"! That's where I like to think freshly post-op WLS folks need to sit, reflect and catch their breaths before taking the step into "the rest of their lives".

All of the "nasty's" will pass. One quote that I heard and I think of whenever I am tempted: "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels". :)

Feel better and keep in touch, please,

Valentina

Just hang in there. The first few days can be pretty rough, but it does get better every day. There will likely be moments when you are sad, frustrated, tired, cry for no reason, curse yourself for doing this in the first place, and question whether you will ever feel normal again. I promise that ALL of those feelings pass eventually. You WILL feel normal again. You just have to power through these first few weeks. Focus on the moment at hand, getting your Water in, walking, getting your Protein in (once you can), eating/drinking on a schedule, weighing out your food. Little by little you will get the hang of it. Treat your stomach like it's a newborn baby's stomach.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
