not knowing your father, I will have to guess why he isn't telling you that he cancelled his trip in order to be at the hospital.

I would guess that he wants the decision to have WLS TOTALLY yours. He doesn't want you to "lean" on him to bolster you up if you were to wobble about it. Tough love.

He wants you to be strong and confident and you are showing that you are indeed.

He's going to be there! Don't question it. Bathe in the sheer glorious support he is now willing to give.

@@Yadie2006 I'm so glad I found your post! I'm having surgery the same day!

I too am unsupported in my desicion to have surgery by somenone who is very important to me, my husband. He is also the same person who has insulted me about my weight, and made it plain...he doesn't want a fat wife. He also feels I should be able to do it on my own.

I am nervous about the surgery too. I also know I have battled my weight for 20 years, losing, and then gaining even more...over and over again. I am sure that I need major help to lose it and keep it off. To stay obese is really an open invitation to so many health problems, and I feel so ashamed and hopeless about it.

I'm sharing this with you...to let you know that you're not alone. I plan on going to my first suport, God....and also here to the forums. Since we're having it the same day, we can encourage one another. ????

I'm praying for your family to come around. And for a painless, successful surgery!

God bless!

@@FrankiesGirl You really expressed exactly how I feel and what I've been through. Thank you for taking the time to write it. It's good to hear the reasons why I'm having this surgery in such a cohesive way. Be blessed!

Where are you having surgery and who is your surgeon? Usually it is a simple surgery. I had it a week ago and started back at work yesterday with no problem!

I think for this you have to make the decision for you. I had decided I was done fighting my body with diet after diet. I wanted to be a healthy size and have energy to lead a full life. I figure once I am at a normal weight people will get used to it and the surgery won't be such a big deal anymore. Hope that makes sense:)

im in san jose california. im having my surgery at good samaritan hospital with dr marc zare.

Hey girl, I am having the sleeve Feb 1 at Good Sam with Dr. Zare!!!

@@Yadie2006,

WLS is a big deal, so it’s good to think carefully! Sometimes it helps to try to identify exactly what you’re “scared” of, just like some of the other members have said. The surgery itself is scary to think about, but the reality is you’ll be asleep and have no idea what’s going on.

Life after surgery is a little scary – are you scared you’re not going to be able to follow the diet? That’s definitely a huge issue, and one you need to be honest with yourself about. Are you willing to make the changes not for a few weeks, or months, or years, but FOR LIFE?

As for your family: yes, that’s rough. It’s always better to have the support of your loved ones, but it’s not always possible. Maybe they’ll come around, maybe they won’t. Maybe they’ll come around as soon as you get surgery, maybe it’ll be when you start losing weight, maybe it’ll be when they see how hard you’re working and NOT taking the easy way out.

Any big decision is scary. There are the pros and cons. There is your health and kids, versus the cost of surgery and the permanence of losing your stomach. Only you can decide…but we’ll be with you. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
