Preop diet in a house full of people eating whatever

Recommended Posts

I have worked for months to get to this point... My surgery is in five days... This liquid preop diet is getting to me... I live with 4 other people and all their cooking is making me crazy... I was lighting candles in my room so I couldn't smell it... I haven't cheated and I won't... I just needed to vent :(

Thank you... I'm trying... You're right... Some days are just harder than others

So true !!!

You are doing great......gut check time is what the pre-op diet should be called. LOL.

It's the "how bad do I really want to do this thing" period.

I can say that it was the toughest part for me. Everything that came later was much easier to deal with. Sure there are periods when my scale readings will just hang up for a few days....two weeks or more at a time.....but then start dropping again. I tend to get antsy during these times.

You are doing great.....stay the course and know that you'll be back to a normal....be it a new normal....in just a few weeks. By the beginning of my second month post-op it just seemed like everything fell into place. The abdominal hernia that was repaired during the sleeve surgery started feeling normal and I was able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's been a cakewalk ever since.

Speaking of walking......maybe you can go out for walks during the normal times those other folks are cooking & eating.

It definitely is the how much do I want to do this phase lol ughh but I feel back on track today. It's so nice having a place to go where I can vent and share what I'm going through :). Thank you so much

@@BrightEyes42 - the pre-op is hard but keep your eye on the prize and go walk, like Dub said, or take a long bath...this will be a thing of the past before you know it :D

@@BrightEyes42 I am a few hours post op and just told my husband that I'm so grateful my dr had me do the 2 week liquid diet. I feel like it's help me mentally prepare so I can focus on physical healing after. It's absolutely worth it. Hang in there, it'll go by fast!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
