4 days post op...well, HELLO hunger!

Gas pains usually go away within a week but can come and go for up to a month. I didn't have much gas pains but I hear on the forum that hotpads and karate chops to the affected area seem to mitigate the pain.

Small portions of what?

I can only speak for me. I consumed a lot of brothy Soups and egg drop Soups for the first week or so. Then I moved onto thicker foods like refried Beans, mashed potatoes and thicker soups.

Doctors have different dietary programs for each of us so it's hard to say what's OK for you? Your doctor knows your mental and medical history and will prescribe how you should be eating. And each doctor may have a different plan for each of his patients based on their history and weight.

Re: Battling through hunger. You got it. There's a saying here on the forums. "Until there's restriction, it's just another diet". That means, until you get the fill that gives you some feeling of satiety with less food, you're still on a diet.

Thanks guys, that helps. Small portions of Soup. That's all I'm eating at the mo, and of a consistency that can go up a straw. But I'm literally on like 4oz size measures 3/4 times a day. So maybe need to up the frequency. I've read about this egg dropping, I've never tried it but seems a great way to get the Protein in!

My doc's prescribed 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks mashed up food then normal food with first fill being about week 6.

I'm certainly not hungry enough to try puréed tuna just yet!

Hey guys, yes I was having severe gas pain myself, I bought heating pads and gas x chewable. They work miracles. Also let someone pat you in the back , and burp away .... I'm used to the liquid diet already , I'm up to purée food starting today , ..... For my liquid. I did a lot of Protein Shakes, diet Snapple , broth home made, crystal light, Water, ice pops, when I felt hungry I will have a shake or which Eva. I would usually add Fiber to the shakes as well , it helps with Constipation .

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
