So, I have been doing my liquid diet since January 1st. I know my surgery is not until February but I wanted to start the new year on the right foot!

That said, I have lost almost 20lbs and wow I can already see and FEEL the difference! In my body, in my clothing, my appetite and my outlook. I'm super excited for surgery now!

I do plan to continue my liquid diet and hope to lose another 20lbs before surgery. Fingers crossed! ????

@@Nurse_Lenora Great job! I did something similar and started a modified stage 2 diet pre-op to help me get used to it. Then I moved to liquids 2 weeks pre-op. It was a big help psychologically.

That said ... be careful & make sure your surgeon is aware of what you are doing. I had plenty to lose and the Doc was okay with it. My friend started the same thing and was told to STOP immediately or she would fall below the BMI for insurance approval. She was even told to skip the liquid diet 2 weeks pre-op (same doctor, same program). The biggest difference was that I weighed nearly 100lbs more than her pre-op. Just be careful.

I had a Dr appt with my surgeons office yesterday too, and they told me to just concentrate on maintaining my current weight so I don't fall below the 40 BMI. My surgery won't be until August sometime. :( I originally thought it was going to be June or July, but my first "consult" with my surgeons office doesnt get counted toward the 6 month wait. )

Thanks all!

My insurance calculates weight by your first visit with the surgeon and that's the weight submitted for surgical approval.

Now that is done I'm free to lose!

Congratulations! I have to give you a lot of credit, I could not do the liquid diet for that long. I did well on it but geez, 10 days later I swear my brain was not functioning at 100%.

Granted I got so sick of the cloyingly sweet Protein shakes and everything else I was allowed was clear sf liquids.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
