6 Days Post Op - Hungry....

Recommended Posts

I just had a lap band revision to bypass surgery one week ago. I am not supposed to eat any pureed foods for another day but I am so hungry. I just can't take anymore Protein Shakes. I eat applesauce when I need to mix my potassium and can take down more than 60 ounces of Fluid. Anyone eat earlier than they were supposed to? What were the results?

I'm not going to tell you what to do but the rules are there for a reason. This isn't like dieting we previously tried, where if we messed up and cheated, we could just say "whoops" and start again. Eating things that your stomach is not healed for can cause HUGE complications, pain, ripping stitches, even death if your stomach leaks and you go into sepsis and can't get treatment in time. My advice is... toughen up, stick to the plan, and soon this frustration with Protein shakes will be over. It's not worth the danger and the pain, and you've come too far to make a rookie mistake now! :)

I had my revision Dec 28 .I am still on full liquids.I suggest strained Soups.Applesauce at this point is a Nono....

Are you adding Protein powder to your drinks/shakes,cream of wheat?

It is too early for you to be eating any solids..,be careful.

I just had my gastric bypass surgery on January 14, 2016

I was having a hard time keeping my liquids down. I went today to see my doc and he recommended me having a Jamba juice, I was surprised and scared, but I tried it

It was wonderful, cold and refreshing. I'm feeling great right now. Hoping for everyday to get better and better. Hoping the best for everyone else also.

I am 5 months post op and I found that using a timer (there's a free one on the app store called "Bariatric Timer") really helps curve the hunger. Sounds weird but it helps me. I stopped using it for about a month and just recently started using it again to help with the hunger and bad snacking habits I have created. It tells you when it's OK to drink and eat and I found that when I stick to it, it almost feels like "wow, I have to eat again already?" or "wait, I didn't finish all the Water I wanted to drink before eating again." Stick to the rules! They are there for a reason. You've got this! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
