jess9395 5,449 Posted January 21, 2016 2 day pre-op diet means that he wants you to burn your stored sugar levels in your liver to shrink it somewhat. When you diet or fast your body burns the stored sugar in your liver called glycogyn first. Most people have a 2-3 day supply of this sugar that has to be used up first before they begin to burn fat. However, and I'm saying this from observation, those patients who go on at least a 2 week pre-op diet appear to be more successful and lose more weight than those who do not. When you go on a 2 week pre-op diet you lose a lot of weight before your surgery and you are also over your carb withdrawals. Of course like all generalizations there are exceptions. I had a two day and lost more than I ever expected--I'm 5'6" and lost from 271 to 135 and have been maintaining there for over a year now. So nothing is black and white. Just sayin so no one feels "doomed" by not having a two week pre op diet. It's all up to you! You can do it!
smj2611 2 Posted January 30, 2016 Laura, the pre-op diet is to shrink the fatty liver. So the surgeon can get a safer view. The higher your BMI, the longer you will be assigned the pre-op diet. Lower BMIs, shorter time. If your surgeon goes by the guidelines.....
