Protein question

I hope this is the correct forum for this question, please pardon my ignorance if it's not????. Does anyone know if you can/should eat grilled or BBQ'd foods from a gas grill or charcoal grill. Hubby is a big griller and we are curious. Thanks to any suggestions!

I don't know why not. Once you are cleared for all foods then any grilled meat should be ok. I had grilled salmon during my soft phase and it was delicious.

Somewhere around the 8-9 week mark my desire to grill was rekindled.

I freaking love it.....the grilling and the flavors.

I've got slabs of ribs on right now, in fact.

Collards on the stove.

I'll have a rib...maybe two....and a couple bits of collards. Protein & Fiber. All good stuff.

Grilled some salmon this weekend.....love it, too.

Grill away! Just follow the Proteins you are allowed for the specific stage of diet you are in.

Thanks very much to everyone for the grilling advice ????. I was unsure if the grill marks or the smoked/charbroiled taste might make people nauseated or worse. I guess you really do just have to try things little by little and see how you do! Hopefully I will still enjoy very small portions of grilled and spicy foods.

The grill part of your question is just fine, but I would try BBQ Sauce with caution or use sugar-free.< /p>

Thanks Spiceyfrog; yes, I've been taught at nutrition classes our program requires that BBQ Sauce must be sugar free or homemade with no sugar added. I don't want to do anything that will cause me to become sick and get re-admitted to the hospital. ????

After surgery it becomes one big experiment. Once coveted foods become inedible to some. If he loved it and can eat it with his specific stage diet....go for it.

I'm a grilled and if I had to give up the grill, that would probably have been a deal breaker. lol my only advice is stay away from BBQ sauces because those are full of sugar and sugar is not our friend post surgery at all. Also, make sure you eat moist meat and if it's something that tends to be dryer like chicken, just make sure you have some sauce on hand to lube it up. ????

I'm so happy that someone asked this question as I wondered the same thing. I have not been to the NUT yet however I was afraid of any BBQ Sauce after I saw how it affected my sister. She is 5 years post op RNY and she tried some of her husband's sauce he ordered. Within 30 minutes she had taken most of her clothes off (in the Mall) and she was Sweating So Bad. I was Completely Scared!

if you find one let me know. I tried G Hughes sugar free BBQ sauce, but blech it was horrible. I also tried making paleo BBQ sauce, but again blech blech blech! I really want something that compares at least to sweet baby rays, but so far no dice. I've kind of given up. ????

I, too, have wondered about a decent BBQ Sauce once I can try that type of food post op. I've asked about grilling (as in cooking methods) and had some nice advice from posters here. But I've also not found anything very specific out in the marketplace for "sugar free" sauce.

I had always made from scratch or tweaked a store bought sauce before surgery, so I'm guessing I'll have to make my own sugar free sauce post surgery, too. I'm in the boat with you all; anyone who has more knowledge or ideas, post away!!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

      The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
