Sleeved and Going on a Cruise!

Recommended Posts

I love going on cruises...I love everything about cruising, and if you are like me...you probably know that the food is one of the best parts of cruising. Well, we have a cruise coming up in a few months, and I am extremely tormented about it! I know I will need to face lots of food at some point in my life, but I also know I'll need some serious strategies to be able to resist some of my favorite deserts for example. By then I will be over half way towards my goal, but not there yet. and I am wondering how I will coup with 7 days on the high seas with all that yummy goodness.

A part of me things, no problem, I can do this, while another part is wondering, is this not like an alcoholic leaving mid AA program to go to an All You Can drink Winery? So my question is...are there any cruise lovers out there that have sailed since being sleeved, and if you have any advise for how to coup with the temptation. I would sure appreciate it if you shared your experience.

It's really not that difficult.

Limit the sugary stuff, but sample the things that interest you. Stay active. Hit the gym every morning and go on active excursions.

I was dieting during the last cruise we went on and followed that plan.....7 day cruise.....drank every afternoon....ate well and weighed in before and after the cruise.......lost 5 pounds that week.

The flavor of some of the food is really good.....especially the dinner meals. It's the buffet environment that I avoided.....heavy carbs and sweets....no thanks.

I don't focus on the food. Other than Breakfast and dinner, I stay busy doing activities both on and off ship. In fact I'm planning a cruise for Fall 2016 now.

Just returned from a seventeen day cruise. Did not gain a single pound.

What timing! I just got back from a 7-day cruise yesterday, at 6 months post-op. I was worried about the food too, but was so relieved to find out it was no big deal at all. I wasn't perfect. I ate some things that I wouldn't normally, but instead of heaping platefuls, I'd take a small portion and wouldn't even finish it.

Breakfast was pretty easy given all the eggs, meats, cottage cheese, fruit, etc. lunch and dinner were more difficult because a lot of items were fried, but I could always find something. I actually liked the fact that there was constantly food available, because it made it easy for me to get some Protein in me every 3 hours without standing out.

I had good intentions of going to the gym, but I only made it twice. The rest of the days, I did laps on the walking track. I made sure to get my heart pumping, but I just wanted to be outside as much as possible! Something to work on for next time, I suppose.

Sorry to ramble, but long story short, don't worry yourself about it too much. The options are there; you could eat 100% to plan without much difficulty with the normal food they provide. But if you do decide that you want to splurge a little because it's vacation, what better place to do it than somewhere where you're not cooking, cleaning, or having to worry about the leftovers?

Wow! Congratulations with not gaining! it would seem that would be very hard to do. My weight fluctuates daily and I can def tell on the scale if I've not made the best choices the day before.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
