I can understand the dizziness and tiredness because of lack of nutrition. If I have to go back half days at first, I will have that option. Hoping your symptoms lessen soon. Congrats on the weight loss so far!!!

I'm a supervisor and spend half the time at my desk and the other half on my feet, lots of up and down. I had surgery on a Tuesday and back at work on Monday. First week was tough but not impossible by no means, if getting time off isn't an issue take the 2 weeks.

You sound like a super hero! :D

im a therapist and doctorate student. Was at work a week after surgery. I walk a lot, work in a clinic and have to get clients from lobby downstairs and take to rooms, in addition to going to get files/paperwork, etc. I was fine. Just walked a little slower than usual.

That's fantastic!

I teach too and I chose to tell my principal. She was super supportive and told me that I wasn't coming back until my doctor cleared me so we will see what happens. She is an awesome boss and she wants me to truly be ready to come back.

I was out a month and it was worth it. I would get fatigued after two hours if I did anything (running errands). I just wanted to rest and regain my strength.

Better to take off more time than not enough if you can afford it. Short Term Disability should pay you 100% for several weeks if you have been with your employer for any amount of time.

I was approved for 5 weeks, so I took them. It was blissful!

I want to take 6-8 weeks off. Gonna talk to my surgeon on Thursday. I hope he agrees.

The surgeon I am using writes notes for six weeks, yet he assured me that most people feel better by week two. But I also hope you can get at least six weeks. I have a feeling we have a lot of retraining to do and a huge amount of lifestyle changes coming up. This is already changing me in the way I see food, how I got this big, how the food industry is, what's pushed on me, what choices I have, what I think I can and can't afford.

It's big. lol =) Good Luck!

@@pkh70 If your surgeons office is anything like mine, they don't care. They will return you on the date you tell them to return you. Just make sure you check with your Short term disability administrators to find out how much time they will approve. It's ok to ask them that question.

Thanks for your ideas. I went ahead and planned my sub to stay for the week after Spring Break too. It looks like even if I go over my days I can use the act that allows you extra days for surgery at little cost to your paycheck.

I took 3 days off work, plus a 3 day weekend, and I was fine to return, although hydrating was a bit of an issue. I had a 2 week liquid pre-op diet, so all of the weakness and feeling like crap that goes along with the beginning of a low cal diet was gone by surgery, which helped.

When I had my consult with my surgeon he mentioned 3 weeks. After I got my date and talked to the scheduler, she said 4-6 weeks. I'm telling working 4-6 weeks to prepare for the worst but really hope to be back after 4 weeks or 5 weeks max.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
