Klolojadie 46 Posted January 18, 2016 I'm almost 5 weeks out from RNY and I'm craving fresh fruits and vegetables so so bad it's an obsession. Before surgery, I was worried that I'd be craving sugar or baked goods, bread, pizza (junk) basically, but no -WAY! I'm spending literally hours of my day obsessing over crunchy fresh fruits and veggies. Everything I have to eat is cooked to death soft meats or Protein shakes and cheese. I'm so tired of animal products and lack of texture. How in the world do you make it through to 12 weeks when you can have raw crunchy veggies again?! I'm in need of some green peppers (crunchy) Carrots (crunchy) cucumbers (crunchy) even tomatoes full of juice and seeds just with some salt....a pickle..some lettuce...a piece of deli turkey with some crunchy veg rolled into it. I'm dying here

James Marusek 5,244 Posted January 18, 2016 Most individuals have a strong desire to chew. It is part of our digestive process. For the first 2 months after RNY surgery, our diets are restricted from solid food and as a result - no chewing. This is to protect the stomach from damage during the healing process. This first two months went by so quickly, I do not remember a strong obsession with chewing. So all I can say is this time is short and very soon you will again be able to chew. talkingmountain 83 Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) Klolojadie, I feel your pain! All I can think about lately is biting into a head of crunchy iceberg lettuce! (And normally I'm not even a big iceberg fan, but it looks amazing right now). Fortunately my program allows us to start eating fresh fruits and veggies at 4 weeks so I have to wait only one more week. (Although my experience having banana a couple of days ago (allowed) set off two full days of nausea so I know that I'd better take it really slowly!) For now the only crunch I'm allowed is saltine crackers. As long as I limit them to 4-5, they agree fine with me. At least it is some form of crunch! nnv 44 Posted January 19, 2016 When I couldn't take it any more, I had myself a dill pickle. Mind you, I chewed it for an eternity because I was nervous about my first "solid" food, but it satisfied the need to chew and a flavor I just wasn't getting on Protein Drinks and pureed food. I was cleared to chew at week 5.
Klolojadie 46 Posted January 20, 2016 Yes, guacamole is awesome & I've been eating avocados but of man I want crunchy. It seems so unnatural to only have things that don't seem fresh. And pickles..oml! I've even thought of Pickle Juice to get over that craving. In so hoping that once I actually am allowed, that I'll actually be able to tolerate everything that in dreaming about. Salads for DAYS!
keltre8 0 Posted January 29, 2016 I've been craving salads as well. I am at the 5 week mark, and am cleared to start adding foods. I was told to just try one thing at a time. I think I will have some deli turkey with laughing cow cheese wrapped around a pickle. Or a piece of lettuce with the turkey and cheese.
Klaselayd 8 Posted February 13, 2016 Klolojadie; I am 5 week out from my RNY and I too have been craving fruits and vegetables. I was determines to make it happen. I have a Nutrabullet. I blend Kale, Baby carrots, apple, banana, Flax seed, vanilla Protein Powder, and a scoop of natural apple juice frozen concentrate. Its delicious! This will help you get your fruits and veggies in, but it won't take away the desire for crunchy vegetables. I hope this helps a little.
