18 months post-op and Struggling.

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I had my surgery almost 19 months ago now and everything has been amazing (I lost about 100lbs and have maintained for a while now). But during the holidays I have to confess I went crazy with my eating and gained about 4 pounds. Does this happen to any of you?

I'm struggling a lot to get back to eating properly and I have cravings all the time now. How do you get back on track? Is there some type of cleansing you can do to jump start your weight loss again?

TIA for your help!

I'm in the same situ as you. although I'm 3.5 years out - I was the same weight for 2 years, but in the past 4 to 6 months I've put on about 12lbs... which is not good! Just can't get back on track and have the cravings too - I know there's something like a 5day pouch test... where you go back to liquids for so long, then soft etc.... someone else will likely know better - I've thought about doing this, but there never seems to be a 'right' time - perhaps I should just get my head down and get it done.

Good luck... whereabouts are you located? I'm in Scotland UK.

I'm 18 months out, too. Although I didn't gain really during the holidays because I was trying to excersise to compensate for my terrible eating, I was eating way to many sugar and carbs. I knew once they were over, I needed to detox from it all to end the cravings for more.

I just started by getting back to basics again. Tons of Water, ONLY protien and veggies for every meal except for a Protein shake for Breakfast. No sugar, carbs from white stuff, or processed food.

After the 5th day, I'd lost 2 pounds not really trying, and my cravings for sugar and carbs were under control again. The first day or so is rough getting over the hump, but once you get into the groove, it's easier to keep it going. My restriction even got better!

Good luck!

It's nice and encouraging to know I am not alone!

Thank you for the advice Babbs! I will do exactly that to get back on track because i also went on a sugar and breads binge.

Able2cope, I'm in Argentina. I'm sure after 3 years things are harder but let's try what Babbs sugggest and I'm sure we will get results. Let me know how it goes.

Thank you so much for your reply girls!

I am three years out, and have gained a little (about 5-7 pounds) too. That is really alarming! Then, I had some liposuction done, and gained another 10 pounds of Fluid on top of that! Talk about scary!

But then, I take a deep breath, and I know I will be OK. Weight management takes time and effort. I just need to course correct, and going back to basics, being strict with my intake will lead to success. It's the processed foods that have a way of sneaking in, along with refined carbs and sugars that lead to craving. Once I'm off the junk for a few days, life gets much easier again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
