I have my surgery booked for February 2nd, and am getting quite annoyed about my Medical Tourism agency. They were very attentive and quick to answer emails before I paid my deposit, but now it's taking longer and longer, and they sometimes don't answer the questions I ask, even when I ask them more than once. I sent my flight/hotel information to them on the 2nd of Jan, then followed up a week later to check they had it and ask some questions, and they still haven't emailed me back. I don't think I'm being unreasonable here?

They gave me some pre-surgery info back in November in terms of what things I had to reduce, and a basic idea of what would happen when I arrived at the airport, but I don't understand why it's so difficult to get questions answered now. It's getting closer to my date and they're just not replying.

I have a copy of the invoice from the clinic to say my surgery is actually booked and they received my deposit, and I contacted them on Friday to double check it and ask if there was anything besides what I was already told that I need to do before my pre-surgery tests the day before. The person there replied back the next day to say I was definitely booked in and she would send. me any other info tomorrow. That's a relief for me, but I'm very frustrated that I'm having to do this at all. The whole point of going through a Medical Tourism was so that I didn't have to worry about these arrangements. The company is supposed to meet me at the airport and transfer me to the hotel, and then they take you the next morning for your tests and things, but without them confirming if they have my details I don't know if this is still happening. I can figure out the subway/tram/taxi if I have to, but why should I, you know?

Where do you live? I'm just curious. I'm assuming in Europe but if not then was wondering why you decided to go to the Czech republic for surgery.

As long as the surgery has been booked I don't think I need to be super nervous, it's just a hassle having to figure out myself is all, especially when it's their job.

I'm from the UK, hence Europe for surgery.

Aaaand, the plot curdles.

I called their English helpline, who today were finally answering their calls. She called the girl in prague and messages finally started flowing again. Unfortunately, during the two month period of magical email disappearance that seems to have conveniently fixed itself, she claims she emailed me to say that their was a problem with my date and that she moved it to the 16th. Assuming she's telling the truth (assuming.) that's ridiculous because who changes stuff around with no reply?

So now I have the problem that I have the flights and hotels booked because she told me to go ahead and do that, but won't use them, and I now don't really trust the clinic to know their arse from their elbows and take care of me.

I called up another provider (New Leaf) that I had been considering before I chose the ISCARE clinic and *fingers crossed* they may have a space for the dates I originally had, the lady is checking with the surgeon now for me. If they do I can use my original flights, but will lose money on the hotel booking. I've told my contact with medical travel czech that I really think I should be reimbursed for the hotels, but I doubt that will happen. They told me before that if I cancelled the surgery for any reason they would return my 800 EUR deposit, so I'm waiting to see if that happens and what their response to my email will be. Hopefully I don't have to fight for it.

They were very apologetic, but at this point apologies don't help me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
