Hello.... My name is Dana and this is my first post to this group. My gastric bypass surgery is Monday, Jan. 25th. I started my pre op liquid diet today. Any pointers on how to get through this. I am already finding myself hungry!!! Thanks so much

What can you have? I was only on liquid and Premier Protein shakes saved me. I wasn't really hungry at all. Head hunger is tough. When you get it walk. Read. Clean house. Do something. Take your mind somewhere else. You can do this! I never was starving. I also had millions of sugar free Popsicles. There are some in a clear bag which tastes great. Drink Water or broth when hungry. YOU control your mind. Don't let it be the other way around. We all go thru pre op diet, well most of us. Kick its butt!!

Welcome and best of luck with your surgery.

@@rking, gave you some great advice.

What are the guidelines for your pre-op diet? What can you have? Focus on what you can have and not what you can't. Herb tea and Water flavored with Water enhancers can be really helpful. As my NUT said, it isn't forever. You WILL get to eat again.

Just remember that everything you are asked to do is for your benefit.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

It's hard!!!! Do your clear liquids include sugar free Popsicles and Jello? Those might be a savior for you. Good luck! It gets easier! This is the hard part! Keep your eyes on the prize!

Hey, I'm having surgery on the 25th too! You're the first I've found that shares my date. As for the pre-op diet, the first days of any new restrictive diet are going to be difficult - your body and mind just cry for what they're used to. You just have to push through - it should get easier as the days go by.

My per op is Jan 29 surgery Feb 11 , my doctor didn't say anything about a liquid diet. I'm having a revision from my first surgery in 1993 I have band erosion and it's bad . So they the only option for me is bypass.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
