I'm not from Lafayette, but I'm using George Merriman out of Shreveport

I live near lake Charles and am using Dr. Chung here. I researched him and heard great things. I didn't find anyone else in LA that I thought was as good. But didn't have to do to much research once I met him and his staff. Great team. I'm self pay and he's 14,000. There was a dr in New Iberia who was like 10,000 but it's because you have to stay in a hotel for 3 days instead of a hospital. I just didn't feel right about that. Good luck! Hope you find someone you like!

Is there a particular reason your going to Shreveport? Should I be concerned about the doctors here?

I actually live in Shreveport, but Dr. Merriman has a great reputation and supposedly very, very experienced. He in in one of those Centers of Excellence, from what I understand.

I hope he's good, because I'm paying a lot to use him (outside of what my insurance covers) and he's who I'm using...too late to turn back now, as I'm scheduled for surgery on the 25th!

I used to live in moss bluff. My best friend still lives there. I'm glad you didn't go to new Iberia. I know that most everyone from there uses the doctors in Lafayette.

May I ask why you are going to Houston? Who is your doctor there?

My Dr. is Dr. Balette. My PCP recommended I go to Houston. I did call to inquire about the program at LGMC, and a rude receptionist, coupled with them taking a long time returning calls, and the recent news that LGMC is being penalized by medicaid/medicare because their post op infection rate is higher than optimal made me decide to go elsewhere. After my initial consult in Houston I just felt very comfortable with that surgeon and the experience has been great so far. My surgery is next week.

What surgeon are you using? My sister lives in Houston so that is an option for me. Are you getting nervous? Excited?

Just realized you gave me the name already. Oops!!

I am not really nervous, I really like my surgeon ... I'm excited, but prepared for the fact that the first few months are going to be rough if that makes any sense.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
