Have you seen your bariatric surgeon about all this?

Sounds like you would benefit from some imaging. Sometimes it helps to know what something isn't just much as knowing what it is.

I'm hoping that all of you experiencing these issues will get checked out and get imaged or endoscoped. Please let us know what you find out. Didn't imagine any negative consequences that far out. Best of luck.

I was sleeved in 2012, I am also having problems about a year 1/2 ago i had and endo and told I had a touch of diverticulitis, and this year I was told IBD, and there is no cure for that, I had a swallow test today, won't see new bariatric dr till March 3rd , pain and tenderness muscle spasm but I jst thought it was from the IBD, oh the diverticulitis and IBD were diagnosed by two different GI dr's

Yikes I am Pre Op and these future symptoms scare me!

Complications occur in <1% of bariatric surgeries. Possible? Yes. Likely? No.

I also disagree with the statement that the sleeve is "too new" to have long term outcomes data. People have had similar surgeries for decades, but not for the purposes of weight loss. Before we learned that most stomach ulcers are actually caused by bacteria, people with stomach ulcers used to have partial gastrectomies. Gastrectomies are also used to treat certain forms of cancer.

It's normal to worry pre-op, it's part of the process. I encourage to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.

the sleve is new statement was made by my bariatric doctor he actually said they dont have enough data such as 10-20 yrs worth of information on sleve patients

so after many appointments and testing doctor said i have IBS in addition to hernia, top of sleve has a pocket where food is depositong and bottom of sleeve has a kink

his solution is a bypass it should fix my discomfort n pain but probably not the "runs" he said there is no way to redo or fix a sleeve because its to risky and can cause more problems

although my stomach functions in time the sleve might become more distorted then it is now

im very hesitant to do bypass i need to do more research on it anyone has info on sleeve to bypass please share

im happy with my current size and wieght the bypass would cause more wieght loss geez what a mess apparently the experts say my issues are rare and not common but based on my research thus far many people have similar problems so where is the rareity hmmm

so now my question is what unforseen problems will await me with this bypass 2-3 years down the road ? bypass vets please help

Well if you are looking for the people with problems then you are going to find them. The people without problems don't post they aren't have issues. That doesn't mean the complications aren't rare. And it certainly doesn't minimize your pain and discomfort.

Have you got a 2nd opinion? I would before considering another surgery. Can you go to Northwestern or University of Chicago and ask their opinion?

I had IBS and Diverticulitis before the sleeve 2 plus years ago. None since. Please see a doctor. Always remember friends, we are NOT medical experts. When in doubt call your doctors!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
