Gall bladder surgery

Recommended Posts

I had a very slight gall bladder pain on Christmas Eve and after a sonogram I was told I have gall stones.

I'm going to meet with my surgeon soon (no further pain since that one time for about 10 minutes) but wondering if I had surgery would I have to get my band unfilled before?

Also anyone have advice on whether I should just bite the bullet and get it out now or wait to see if it will get worse?

I would definitely talk to your surgeon. When I met my surgeon he mentioned that if they go in amd find that the gallbladder is in bad shape they would be taking that out as well.

It's usually better to have your gallbladder out when you aren't having an acute problem. See what your doc has to say about it but personally I'd try to find a doable time frame in your schedule. If you've started having issues, it's unlikely to stop. Good luck.

I don't usually like to tell someone what to do or not do, but please take this very seriously!

Eight months after my WLS, I had massive pain and ignored it, and ended up in the ER with a bad gallbladder infection. It turned into pancreatitis and was so infected they couldn't take it out right away, so I suffered for awhile until they could operate.

I was stubborn and thought I didn't have the time (graduate school and work full-time) but my gallbladder decided for me.

Please discuss options with your doctor and take the pain seriously. Good luck!

I am a nurse and I have an awesome friendship and working relationship with my surgeon. I also had my gall bladder out about a year post op lap band surgery. One thing I will say about it is that for me I was very nervous for anyone to touch the level in my band because at that time it was about perfect. I left mine alone, i felt amazing after surgery because prior I was very ill and nauseated and i was back in the gym the next day using the treadmill and elliptical (NOT recommended) but I felt so much better after surgery I just had to get t there and get some walking and physical activity in!

Good luck to you! For me the surgery went well and I felt immediately better!

Good luck to you,

Brittany

Thanks. Talked to my sister who also is a nurse. She suggested getting it out before I have an attack

You should be able to have it removed by lapo surgery & no issue with the band.

Im surprised they didn't remove it when they did your band??

Met with my doctor and she suggested that I get out my gall bladder now when I'm not having issues and it's not inflamed etc. it would have to come out eventually.

So I will be making an appointment to get it out in the next few months. No rush.

My gallbladder was taken out Dec 29,2015. I started having pains and would also feel sick after I ate. I went to my six month check up and my WL surgeon said if it got worse to call. I called my family dr and got a sonogram the next day and the general surgeon said it needed to come out now. This was Tuesday before Christmas and I asked if we could put it off until after Christmas since it was my grand babies first Christmas and I ended up in bed most of Christmas wishing I would have just had the surgery. I had surgery on the 29 and since I had meet my out of pocket I didn't pay anything and I have been fine since then. The pain for gallbladder surgery is nothing like my sleeve surgery, I run a home daycare and was back to work the next day:) good luck and don't wait, it can/will cause further issues!!!

So I'm curious about people that started to have gallbladder problems after being banded. I was banded exactly 1 year ago, almost to the day. Around mid-Dec I started getting really nauseous. I thought it was my band. The band that I have never had any problems with. No nausea even right after my surgery. I started to wonder if my band had slipped, but I don't have any problems eating, no throwing up or anything. Just nausea that some days is horrible. Actually in mid dec when it started, I was nauseous basically everyday for 2-3 weeks. Then I started to wonder if it was acid reflux. So I started taking a look at what I was eating and decided it was time to get back on track. Since I started eating clean again, the nausea has subsided quite a bit, but I've been reading a lot lately about nausea being a side effect of gallbladder problems. So I'm just curious if any of you have had gallbladder with nausea being the main symptom?

Go get an ultrasound. I don't think nausea is a side effect but usually pain is. However everyone is different.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
