I am 2 1/2 months out from surgery. Before surgery, I told people that I felt would be supportive, my family, a couple of important coworkers, my student workers, and a couple friends. They all were and are super supportive of all I did before the surgery to prepare and all I've done since as changes to my life, renewed exercise and careful eating, etc. Since the first of the year, I have started telling more people, especially those who haven't seen me for a while. So far everyone has been very supportive. There are still people I will never tell. They may find out from others, but I will not tell them. I made a choice to not post anything on Facebook except the day before surgery when I posted "Tomorrow is a big day for me. Prayers requested" I had posted similar things for job interviews that I couldn't talk about so it seemed generic enough. I got a private message from a college friend who it turned out had had the same surgery about 5 years ago (before we reconnected on Facebook). It was so nice to have her support.

I wasn't going to tell anyone, but my two friends who were helping me around the surgery, but I rethought that and instead was super selective about who I told. So far at least to my face everyone is being supportive and encouraging.

I wish you the best,

Keep reminding yourself why you made this choice in the first place,

HUGS

My daughter went through a bunch of stuff online and looked up complications of the surgery tonight, as a coworker's Mom just passed on today after getting a kidney infection in the hospital after having a knee replacement.

I know she's freaked out about my getting the surgery, but it's not dissuading me. She's certainly trying to get a reaction out of me, and I'm not going to give it ot her.

Thanks for listening. YOU understand, I'm sure, how frustrating all this can be.

I didn't want naysayers about my wls so I told very few people. I told everyone I was having a hernia repaired...well, don't you know I had crazy people telling me their horror stories about their hernia repairs and how they knew people who died?!? People really are nuts and always seem to want to doom and gloom anything. I was so grateful I was "only" getting a gastric bypass and not having an actual hernia repair by the time they finished with me! ???? be strong! I'm glad I went through it!

Hi everyone! I have been getting grilled lately from my friends about getting this surgery. It is causing me major Migraines. How do you deal with it. Keeping in mind my friends are the people I work with on a daily basis.

Simple.

Stay in close adherence with your plan and rock the results.

You'll feel great and no amount of naysaying will trump your improved health.

This is exactly why I tell nobody except my husband. Ive heard too many horror stories!

I have also decided not to tell anyone, because I already know I would never hear the end of it. My husband is the only person that knows about my decision and is my best support. When I went to the WLS informational session, there was a young woman who had VSG surgery and spoke about this issues. What she said to everyone that asked about her weight loss was "I have been blessed" and left it at that.

I hear you on the nay sayers and their constant chatter that is rather annoying.

One of the reasons deterring me the surgery is what my family would say. They have seen me going from being skinny to obese so many times now however they would be appalled by me having surgery to try and resolve my weight issues ????

I've only told immediate family and a select few co-workers and my boss. Anyone who I think would talk me out of it, I didn't tell, so they will know after I've had the surgery.

Other than that, it's none of their business.

The surgery was first suggested to me by my Heart Failure Specialist, as a means of getting my weight down to help "move up" on the list for transplant. When I spoke with my PCP, I was pleasantly surprised when he was also on board with the decision. I have not gone around telling everyone about my plans at this point (waiting on the surgery date, hopefully sometime in April). I have however spoken with a few friends, whom have also had bariatric surgery. With the exception of one, all have been supportive and offered help with anything needed.

For me, it's a personal decision and frankly no one else's business. I am sure closer to surgery I will share the news with some more family and friends but I will cross that bridge when the time comes.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
