My surgery was scheduled @ 12:30 on Tuesday. I arrived at the hospital at 10. Registered, taken back for my IV, vitals taken. Moved to the prep and holding area about 11am. The surgical nurse comes out about 11:30to tell me that there is a delay and we definitely will not be going back at 12:30. Hours go by, my butt is numb, my family is hungry and the I'm wondering what in the world could be taking so long., Is there complications? Are they ok? Not good thoughts to be having before surgery. Finally about 4 the surgeon comes out to tell me that they are preparing the OR and will be another 40 mins. Well they can't estimate very well, an hour and half later I'm wheeled into surgery.

I "barely" wake up in recovery. I hear the nurse say "she's sound asleep". They wheel me to my room about 10:30. (No wonder I'm tired). I remember using the bathroom and sleeping all day Wednesday. That's it lol. The doctor came in late Wednesday to tell me that because I was still very sleepy and the hernia repair he was keeping me another day. Good thing, my ride had left. Who gets discharged after 8pm?

Today I was able to walk and get some fluids and broth down. Ice pops are a God send at home.

Looking forward to feeling better

If it were my dad he would've been gone. But everything I'd worked for was in my grasp so I put on my big girl pants and dealt with it lol.

Not walking as much as I should, but I am sipping, sipping, sipping. Winters are not kind here and im not suppose to ride in a car yet. Trips around the house it is. Getting bored. One of my incisions hurts pretty bad when I move around but I'm holding off on pain Meds during the day so I can sleep at night.

I know we're not suppose to b on the scale but I've lost since Tuesday . Hoping the 6lbs wasn't my stomach

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
