Let's talk about Vomit

Recommended Posts

So yes, I know this is a disgusting topic but anyway, I'll try to keep it short.

How many of you have over-eaten and ended up throwing up or vomiting food back up because you ate to much or too fast?

I have had this happen 4 times total. It doesn't feel that bad. It's quick and to the point. It has been a while since this has happened to me. The bigger problem I have is vomiting when I sleep...stomach acid so I have to take a Prescription pill for that at night.

Once.

It happened to me once.

It was a couple weeks after I could have solid foods.

Wasn't something I wanted to ever go through again so I began to measure and asses the quantity of what I eat....BEFORE....I eat it.

I've found that once I get full.....it's too damn late and discomfort and possible pain is heading my way for the next 30 mins.

So much easier to know that 5 bites is the limit and not find out AFTER 7 bites.

Sometimes I think my vomit button I broken. LOL. I have never vomited even once and I am 18 months post op. I have on the rare occasion eaten a few bites too much or eaten something that didn't agree with me, but I can not vomit- I have even tried.

So I just have to wait it out and have a few hours of nausea and sometimes hot flashes. I still try to measure my food to prevent it.

Vomit, puke...it doesn't quite capture the experience. RETCH is a much closer word for it. Happened twice because I was stupid. Dang it hurt. Dry food, or not chewing slowly enough early on. Just follow the dang instructions and avoid it.

I agree with OKCPirate. It's hard to capture how truly agonizing it can be - so much worse than pre-op. For me, it happens if I drink too soon after I eat, and the Water is too cold. Every time it will make everything come right back up, in the most painful way possible. I try not to do so, but sometimes I feel like I'm dying of thirst OR I forget OR my body is not ready when the clock is! Either way, it's rough!

I feel so lucky that I've not thrown up. I am only 9 weeks post op so I am sure it could still happen. I've had two episodes where I think I ate too much and had uncomfortable pain and pressure sitting in the middle of my chest. I had to pace both times for half an hour to remain sane thru it. Those 2 times pretty much have ensured I don't over eat anymore!

Chewing slow, taking your time, and definitely not drinking while or after eating have been learned tasks for me. You too will figure things out along your journey.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
