How long after surgery did you feel like yourself again?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how long after gastric bypass surgery did you feel like yourself again?! I am in my fourth week past surgery and I feel bloated, gassy, and sore in my tummy.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but it takes time. At 6 weeks, I could certainly tell a difference, but for me it was 3 months before I really started feeling more normal and then by 6 months I could tell a real difference. Hang in there. Just keep working. You will look back in 6 months and wonder where the time went!

I felt awful until week seven. I seriously thought I was going to be miserable for the rest of my life up until about the middle of week seven. I'm hoping I will feel better still. I had gastric bypass on October 26. Good luck! It really does get better.

honestly, it's was at least 6 weeks before I felt normal. Pain etc subsided by the fourth week, but until I was able to eat solid foods again, I didn't see my self as normal.

Hello everyone. I had gastric bypass on Dec 14, 2015 and after 2 weeks ended up in hospital for 6 days.

I was dyhdrated and could not keep anything down. I am very overwhelm and feel like this was a mistake.reason I had gastric bypass is being petite and overweight for my height which is 4"11 and I was 189 and also due to severe acid reflux damage and acid was so bad. Yesterday I started stage 4 and guess what? Early this morning I threw up about 6 times and not sure what is going on! Anyone else with this issue. I am very scared and I need to go back to work soon. My legs feel weak. I have no blockage from what I know but I hate this feeling!

Around the 6 month mark, I hit the point where all the many problems associated with RNY gastric bypass surgery, were resolved. I hit my Happy State.

Hello

Thank you for replying to my post. No

Not drinking enough. I must drink more Water. I am not able to even tolerate chewable vitamins yet. About probiotic, no not taking. I am seeing my doctor again this Monday. I should be taking something. I been taking sips sips but need more Fluid intake. I do drink some Protein Shake also but having a hard time drinking everything. I feel full. Any suggestions?

Honestly as hard as it is you must focus on getting your liquids in. Getting dehydrated will literally make you feel weak and sick. Once you get your liquids in you can focus on Protein and Vitamins.

Protein will make you stronger and help you heal.

Number 1 priority after surgery is fluids.

Thank you for replying. Yes so true. I keep sipping Water from the Poland sports bottle but I may have to add some crystal light for some flavor to see if I can drink more. Is it normal to feel gurgling sounds like hunger even when drinking fluids? I have all these weird noises.

Yes and honestly that doesn't go away. I am 16 months post op and just drank a Protein Shake. My tummy is rumbling away.

You get used to hearing it.....LOL!

So does your family!

Oh wow. Lol ????. I hope I don't have to go into any meetings at work and people look at me. Lol . Aww I thought it goes away as time goes by. Lol. How you been feeling? R u able to eat normal foods without any issue? I really wish you best always. I pray to God I get better. I see my family so worry for me and I try to keep my tears to myself. I know everyone body is different. Being positive is important even if it's hard at times. My concern is going back to work in a week or so.

I promise everyday things will get better! I feel fantastic and am so glad I had this surgery.

Because I am so much further along I do get real hunger but it doesn't take much to be full. I really can eat pretty much anything but that doesn't mean I do.

There are only a few things that make me sick.

1. eggs - I still cannot eat eggs without getting sick, I think this is an aversion

2. If I do eat bread, which is rare it must be toasted or it feels like it clogs up my stomach and then I cannot get enough Protein. Protein and good fats keep you full longer, bread and other carbs will make you hungry again and will also generate cravings.

3. Anything overly sweet. Again this is a taste aversion for me and I am truly happy about this because I used to be a sugarholic. That doesn't mean I don't indulge in a little dark chocolate or cheesecake that is not overly sweet every once in a while. I do mean once in awhile.

4. If I overeat, I will get sick. Early on I would hiccup or sigh and that was my signal that I was full. Now, I still eat slowly and I listen to my body. You basically learn what full feels like all over again. You should never feel stuffed. My pouch does not allow me to overeat, I will get sick.

5. Lastly if I eat too fast or don't chew, it actually causes pain in my chest like something is stuck. When that happens, I am done eating so I really am careful

All of this stuff comes with experience. You learn to take your time and you learn your new pouch.

Remember I am 16 months post op and moving into maintenance. The best thing you can do for yourself is follow the food plan exactly which will make you feel better sooner.

Thank for the info. Yes I want to make this journey successful and want to be healthier. I tried so many diets even weight watchers and it worked for few pounds but I over ate when I got anxious and also love sweets. The reflux and being overweight didn't make it easier. I just have to take it day by day. I am glad you taking care of yourself. I believe being around positive people also helps a lot.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
