Need a buddy/mentor

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm 43 years old. I live in Florida I've had my lap band quite a while, but have fallen so far off the wagon. I lost about 50 lbs, but can't get past that, plus gained a little of that back. I know it's my own fault. I've not been following the diet and am still eating far too much food. I just always feel hungry. It's probably time to go back to the dr to get a fill. I've just been too ashamed to go since I haven't really lost any weight since the last time I was there. I still need to lose about 80 lbs to get to where I want to be.

I would advise you to go into the clinic and get the fill. The more you wait, the chances that you start gaining weight increase. If you haven't gained a lot of weight then the clinic should understand, depending on how many times you visit them.

Hi there!

I am in Florida, too :-). Going back to the doctor is a definite first step. My doctor is pretty regimented about follow up appointments, and I know that helped me a lot. Good luck!

Had my surgery 3 years ago on the 15th of January. following up with your surgeon is a good idea. Believe me he is not going to scold you for gaining a few lbs. or not getting to your goal. You might want to see if there is a support group in your area. There are no perfect people here, no one has all the answers.I think you need a fill but I am not a Dr. just another bandster . Be proud of what you have accomplished and be determined to move forward.

JoyLove, I do not know how the buddy pairing-up works on this site ... but I'm looking for a buddy and like you, I had my surgery in '14 and I'm stalled at the 45/50 lb loss. I need to jumpstart things myself. Maybe we have the same struggles? I have not been following this site either --- so I was glad to see that when I logged in today, I found your entry - right away - which I could have written myself!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
