Regarding sushi, I've had it every week since about 2 months out. I get 1 small roll, a little sashimi, and miso Soup. Not bad ...

P.S. Engineers can be introverts and lack social skills, but many of us are outgoing and have a crazy sense of humor.

@CowgirlJane Like CowgirlJane says, he may like fuller figures and then didn't know what to say once you mentioned that you were heading towards thin. If he doesn't follow up then he wasn't the one.

However I have a brother in law that had the sleeve done a couple of years ago. He isn't a spring chicken anymore prob around 62 or so and even though I am sure he is healthier, he does look gaunt to me. Especially in the face. This begins to happen to us older folks anyway as we lose the fat in our faces and our wrinkles show more. Then if we excelerate that by losing lots of weight it will probably be more noticeable. I know I told my husband that he may not realize who he's married to if I lose 100 pounds but I assured him that I would continue the same bitching I always do so he won't be able to forget!

Dated a few "old skinny dudes" and they look "gaunt" even without WLS... jus' saying. Not everyone ages the same or as gracefully....

I love your plan to make sure hubby still recognizes you...teehee

Well it's 11:15 am on "lunch date day" and I still haven't heard from him, so I'm guessing it's a no-go. That's okay.

The experience though, has certainly given me some things to think about.

Well, I did end up looking gaunt. But it wasn't because of WLS. It happened after the WLS. I was throwing up everything I ate. Waited to long to go to the doctor. Ended up being helacobactor pylori. I think I spelled that right. NOW, my family kept blaming the WLS. I looked sick. I was sick. Had NOTHING to do with WLS.

Oh, bosh, he's a piss ant. We don't need him. Er, @@Sharon1964 doesn't need him. There's no challenge or fun in whipping a piss ant into shape. A man of substance is a different matter.

I eat sushi, the rice is on the outside and I don't eat the seaweed wrap, I just eat the center. No one cares.

I have been a low carber off and on for 16 years. I know how to cut the carbs out of eating almost anything.

People can easily get through life after surgery not telling people about surgery, and I still think privacy is the best policy.

They only way I am telling a guy at this point is we are really going to share our lives together, and get married. When I share my credit rating and investment portfolio.

Sometimes people do look gaunt. I don't think he was being negative I think he was just stating an observation that he noticed. That's the way I took anyway.

Honestly, a lot of guys my husband works with had the surgery, and they do look gaunt. BUT, they didn't/don't take care of themselves. That's his biggest fear of me getting the sleeve - that I'll end up gaunt and grey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
