I am going to my fourth of six visits next month and I am beginning to get butterflies. I have never had surgey and the term put to sleep makes me think of putting down animals. Was anyone else nervous about not waking up? I have so much aniexty about the whole thing. I really want to and know I have to have surgery but I am worried about after. I am worried I will overeat or not eat enough. What if I pass out from not eating enough? Any words of advice?

It was my first surgery and like you I was fearful about what to expect.

Frankly, the surgery was the easiest part of the whole process as far as I am concerned.

One minute I was being rolled into a bustling operating room and trying to get reasonably comfortable on the operating table and the next minute I was waking up in recovery.

It sounds scary, but barring any major complications it really is a pretty routine surgery from everything I can tell.

It really is hard to describe. I didn't have an appetite after surgery but it is important to get in fluids and Protein so it is a completely different experience post-op from what we are used to pre-op.

It is a total paradigm shift.

We have plenty of fat reserves, we will not pass out from lack of food. The biggest issue is actually fluids. If you aren't a Water drinker, start practicing now. Being put under really isn't that bad. Personally speaking that propofol sleep is some of the best sleeping I ever had!

Here's a helpful post.

I only drink Water for about a year now. Isnt there a way to drink too much Water? What about this leak test? Do stomachs usually leak and how will I know after I go home?

It is really hard to drink too much water. That isn't something I would worry about at all.

As for the leak test, my surgeon performed one during the surgery. Then the next morning I went through another one before I was allowed fluids (in between I was allowed all the ice chips I wanted ---LOL!). You have to drink this icky tasting stuff (basically soap so that if it did leak it wouldn't poison you) and they watch it travel through your digestive system. It was actually very cool to see how quickly Fluid passes through the stomach.

Stomachs don't usually leak after surgery but it is possible. My surgeon said the biggest risk for leaks is from taking steroids. It's also why getting your Protein in is so important -- we need Protein to heal.

Not really because the body will typically just pee it out. My doctor did my leak test before I woke up in recovery. Leaks & complications are rare. I had the easiest time ever with this surgery. I've had a full hysterectomy, eye surgery and knee surgery. This was by far my easiest surgical experience.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
