SHOTzY* 114 Posted February 7, 2016 Oh god, absolutely, hardly anyone in my little world knows, so I often feel very alone with this. I'll try to relax this weekend, then I go to work teaching school Monday and Tuesday, then early to hospital Wednesday to get it on!! I know what you mean, I 've been real relaxed aboiut all this until just now, but even now I'm quiet, just awaiting this huge event. Have you been tempted to have a "last Supper?" I have but it ain't gonna happen, I'm psyched ????????????- Oh my, YES I have!!! I had 3 friends call and ask to be my "last" dining companion!! They each wanted to treat me to wonderful restaurants and good wine. *SIGH* ...alas, no. I stayed the course, I did as I was advised. I did allow myself a small pity party when no one was around. I felt I deserved that..???? It will be Sunday in about 1 1/2 hrs. I'm allowed 1 meal in the am and then all clears from that point all. I get to come home the day you get admitted to your hospital ????. I'll tell you everything I can to help you and anyone else. But I've read your posts; you seem pretty squared away. Which is good!! I'm betting you will be the patient who is up the same day and ready to do, do, do!! Drive the RN's crazy-HA HA HA!!! ????. Sending only happiness your way! DDN 58 Posted February 9, 2016 I had my RYN yesterday (Feb. 8th) at 8am and my wife said it took about an hour. They woke me up asking me to take deep breathes and asked if I needed more pain meds. I didn't feel like I did, but agreed just to stay ahead of the pain. I'm sore from the incisions, but pain was definitely no worse than my two meniscus repairs or tonsillectomy surgery. Clearing the lungs by using the Airlife tube and coughing has gone fairly well. Swabbing my mouth with disposable swabs and ice Water has been interesting. All-in-all, my experience has not been nearly as bad as I thought. I walked once last night and I didn't feel as though my insides were falling to the ground--I was fine. I can't wait to be cleared by surgeon so I can have catheter and heart monitor removed and my wife and I will walk the halls as much as possible to help relieve the gas pockets. I feel as though I have to pass gas from both ends, but nothing yet. So far so good.
DDN 58 Posted February 9, 2016 Thanks, and no, I didn't think the first days would be much fun at all...Glad it's getting better fairly quickly for you. God bless. thanks again. That's really what we need to hear here It wasn't so bad for me. The only issue I had were a few gas pockets under left side and in the center of my chest. I asked if I could sit on side of the bed about 10pm because it was feeling awful in the bed on my back. The nurse was very kind and offered me some pepsid (sp?) in my IV line and it helped quite a bit with the gas.
Pedro Valle-Inclan 275 Posted February 9, 2016 what you've shared here is incredibly helpful and necessary for us who are about to have ours. I'm in tomorrow morning and only now getting nervous about excessive pain and hoping I can get back to teaching in 12 days. Yes, I've been imagining it to be pretty bad, so again, thank you for this message, even though I know we'll all experience it differently, it was great to hear! It gave me some more confidence
DDN 58 Posted February 9, 2016 (edited) Well that's what I've learned we do here. ???? I'm almost certain that you won't have any problems going back to work. I plan to work remotely from the house all of next week and return on the 22nd because I have meetings already scheduled. I've only shared my journey with a few folks...my two weeks were taken as vacation time and thinking that I may do half days if need be when I return...I'm an administrator and have a little flexibility. Have you heard anything about how soon patients can fly between states? I have to travel for work mid-March and was just curious. I will ask my Doc during my follow-up on the 18th, but was wondering if you read anything about travel release. Edited February 9, 2016 by DDN

Well I am flying 4 days after surgery to go home so I sure hope flying is okay lol... almost everyone who gets their surgery in Mexico has to fly home after their surgery and it seems fine. DDN 58 Posted February 10, 2016 You're absolutely right...I didn't think about the folks who fly to and from Mexico for their surgical procedures.
