I could gnaw off my arm

Recommended Posts

I see the surgeon tomorrow for my final pre-op appointment. I've worked very hard to lose weight prior to surgery and get my head in the right place. Today my dog died. I want to eat everything. I know post surgery I'm not going to be able to eat my feelings.

I'm so sorry about your dog. Losing a pet sometimes can feel worse than humans because they love you so unconditionally. Do you have a counselor you can talk to? If not, please come post here when you need to and someone will help you through it. Best of luck to you!

Many condolences for the loss of your family member (pet). I've had to put down 3 dogs over the last 6 years (age) and it's no fun.

This may sound like little consolation but: keep your focus. You've made it so far already to derail your plan. The journey is just beginning. Take this as a lesson that there will be bumps along the road, but you need to adapt and move forward through the struggles.

I am so sorry about you dog. Losing your pet can be devastating.

As hard as it is, try hard to keep your eye on the prize.

If you need anything feel free to reach out.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know exactly how that feels. I lost my beloved cat Salem that I hand raised as a baby just about 2wks before my surgery. I wanted to eat everything and I didn't really care anymore. He was my love and like a child to me. I kept telling myself to know that this is a battle I had to win. I know stress eating has always been a problem for me and especially ai want sugar and high calorie fat when I am in this state. It's better to talk out your pain than to hold it in and let your body try to eat the pain away.

Thanks for the support. Loving old dogs is hard! Having to make the loving decision to let them go is heart breaking.

I powered through last night without stuffing myself. I made a cup of Decaf coffee with cream and sf Syrup. I know emotional eating is my trigger and this is learning how to manage the stresses of life without stuffing it with food.

Glad to be here!

Hang in there. I went through exactly the same thing. On December 22, our sweet guy got sick and within a few hours was gone. It still doesn't seem real. And I started my liquid diet the next day. Just try to stay focused. And let yourself cry as much as you need to. {{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}}

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
