Anyone over age 45 with big lb. loss to report?

Recommended Posts

I'm pushing 100 in about 7 1/2 months. It's hard, even with the band, but I'm hoping the band will help me keep it off this time.

Wow, you're the oldest bandster I've ever heard of!

j/k :)

I'm 60 (61 in April) I was banded on 8/20/07 I have lost 42 lbs. My Dr. tells me I'm right on schedule. I'm still getting fills and have not reached my "sweet spot". The wonderful news is my blood pressure and blood sugars are all normal now. So I just added some years to my life.

Ya Ya

Am 50 years young, and way past post menopausal. No hormone therapy what-so-ever (keepin' that razor handy for my chin ). I had no other 'real' health issues (am sure blood workups would disagree) prior to banding...just fat.

I was banded in January of 2007, and have lost over 100 pounds (gotta update that ticker).

I exercise at the gym, 1.5 - 2.0 hrs, 5 days a week. Don't know if it helps weight loss tremendously, but I am addicted to how it makes me feel, and how it appears to be reshaping my blob body. Over 20 inches gone from my waist alone.

Also, I eat out all the time. I might "cook" at home maybe one or two meals a week.

I still have lots to lose, and it is coming off slower now, but that's OK. The benefits of living comfortably, mentally and physically are very rewarding. It is hard. I still struggle. I'm not big on denial. I was a volume eater. I just flat out eat tons less than I used to...slowly, and I enjoy it more.

It can be done. There are frustrations...but none as monumental as trying to look good in a size 28!

I had to laugh at your comment about keeping the razor handy for the chin. I actually keep tweezers in the car and pluck in the car all the time. One day I glanced over at the car next to me and another 40 - 50'ish woman was plucking too. LOL! I started menopause symptoms when I turned 40 because of taking tamoxifen. Seemed along with the chin hairs came another 40 pounds. Thank goodness they're gone!

We have something else in common too. I've lost 111 pounds as of this morning and have about 50 to go. I'm not sure exactly what my goal is because I'm guessing that at 160 pounds I'll be in a size 12. I'm shooting for that size 12.

Good job with the exercise. I really enjoy walking alot. I have yet to go to a gym to start strengthening exercise, but I'm hoping to start by April 1st. I know it's a bad excuse, but I cannot stand the thoughts of getting out of work, out into the cold, going to work out, and then out to the cold again. I'm in New England. So, I figured I'd wait until 4/1 to start going to the gym. Right now I'm walking 5+ miles, or 2 hours per day, 6 days per week.

Congratulations on your 100+ pounds gone forever.

Sue

That's hysterical, Sue! Beats looking over and seeing someone stuff their face with a double-quarter-pounder, tho, doesn't it? Pass the napkins, please...and close your mouth when you chew...

I was done with the whole lot at 37. Doc wouldn't believe, did the blood work...yep! I was thrilled!

Oh, that is just amazing! Congrats! Total, I think a loss of 160 lbs would be in order for me. Everything is so different now (from the last time I was at a normal weight), that I don't know what it will look like...so numbers may change. I'm shooting for 140 lbs....now everyone put away their calculators  In my youth, 140 meant a size 6-8.

That is a great workout! I do my cardio on the treadmill or elliptical, and the miles don't go that high, as I do interval training. When my hair is wet with sweat, I'm done! Even in Texas, we get some cold days...and lots of wind. I get colder much easier now due to losing my insulation suit!

Congratulations on your 100+ pounds gone forever.

Same to you!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
