Joyful Tears or Cold Sweats?

Recommended Posts

Hey! Sorry if my typing is odd, this is my first post! My first appt with my surgeon was on November 23rd, 2015, I've been with the entire type who has been helping me with my WL journey. Between November and December, I've lost 12lbs by doing the 1,400 calorie diet that my dietician put me on. Between December and today (1/13/16), I've lost another 6lbs. 18 pounds altogether in 2 months is a lot for me, well, for someone who has always had a problem with losing weight. All I am waiting for is a sleep study and my insurance to call for a date.

Joyful tears, for sure because I am finally making the changes that I want to make in my life. But cold sweats because the closer and closer I get to the actual phone call, the more and more, I am getting scared and nervous and the more I keep thinking that this is such a big change for myself, am I ready? I gave up so much already, but am I ready to give it all up? Any thoughts like this?

Yours Truly,

You're going to be giving up more than you think. Things like back and knee pain, feeling embarrassed by your weight, wondering if you'll fit in a seat, etc, etc. Start thinking about the good things that you'll gain, not the least of which will be better health. You just have to stick it out and keep focused on what you really want.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
