Excessive weight regain

Recommended Posts

When I asked my nutritionist, why some people who undergo surgery, lose a lot of weight then regain some or all the weight back. Her response was grazing. Grazing means to eat small portions of food, as appetizers or the like, in place of a full-sized meal or to snack during the course of the day in place of regular meals. A regain of 70 pounds is a lot. It will be hard to lose that much weight again.

Some causes of weight gain are associated with medication. Some of the prescription medicine that can cause uncontrollable weight gain are:

Anti-Depressants

Birth control pills

Hormones for hormone therapy
Steroids
Beta-blockers
Anti-seizure medication
Tamoxifen
Some treatments for rheumatoid arthritis
Treatments for migraines
Heartburn medications
Some medical conditions that can also cause weight gain are:
Hypothyroidism
Cushing's Syndrome
Not enough sleep
Seasonal Affective Disorder
Preganancy

After my two year anniversary which was oct 2014 i starting gaining weight. Ive gain 70lbs since then. What can be wrong?

What can be wrong? Who knows. Without more information about what you are doing it's impossible to say. My guess is that you aren't following your program and are eating too much. That is generally why we gain weight.

At the end of the day isn't still all about calories in, calories out?

for most people, grazing, drinking too soon after eating, and/or not sticking to the plan are the biggest contributors

Im eating small meals/snacks a day. I dont even get dumping syndrome anymore. I can only eat a half cup at a time for a meal. I am on alot of meds which can cause gain but this much?

Why not make an appointment with your NUT?

Are you tracking your food?

Are you reaching your Protein and Fluid target every day?

Are you taking your Vitamins?

Without specific information no one can help you answer your question.

You should probably talk to your NUT and make a plan to get back on track. Sounds like you went off the rails somehow. Maybe it's food choices, or slacked off with exercise, or started taking a medication that is effecting your weight, but it's better to see the NUT now and not wait until everything has piled back on and your only choice is a revision of some sort.

Small meals and Snacks definately add up. Especially if they are empty calories.

Have you tried going back to the basics? If it were me, I would start with the 5 day pouch test which basically puts you on the liquid diet as if you had surgery yesterday. Then I would focus on:

Making sure you are getting your Protein - 1 gram for every inch you are tall

Get your Water - 48 to 64 oz. every day

Take your Vitamins and get your macronutrients checked via your doc

Follow the rules - no drinking 30 min before and 30 min after

I would literally start over.

Oh and don't forget to track your food and excercise. That is absolutely key when you are struggling.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
