Weight Loss and what to expect

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone. I have my revision from lapband to sleeve scheduled for the 25th of this month. I am currently 220lbs, 5.5" and plan on being around 215 lbs the day of surgery.

My question is, will the sleeve help me reach my goal of 150 lbs. I have seen a lot of posts of lower 200's not loosing very much with the sleeve (when it is a revision). Looking for personal experiences and insight! Thanks

Good morning Caela88....I didn't have a lap band, but I was sleeved in 2011. I started at 223, was about 210 at surgery, and reached my goal weight of 139 in just under a year. Have kept it off for 4 plus years now. I am 5'3" I don't know why the revision would affect the amount of your weight loss; the sleeve is a completely different procedure in my mind. My dr. would not give me the lap band because of the poor statistics of success. I have a feeling you will do very well. Good luck and if my success is your guide you'll be at your goal weight by the end of the year!

It's really hard to tell for sure, especially since you are a revision and that may effect the size and shape of your sleeve. I have read that a lot of revisions from lap-band have scar tissue in their stomachs that their surgeons have to work around. The good news is, a LOT of the outcome of your surgery is in your control! If you stick to the plan, get your Water, get your Protein, get your Vitamins, and exercise regularly, then you'll lose the weight. The sleeve is just a tool, remember. It's up to you how you use that tool to achieve success.

What is a typical diet? How many calories? I am 10 months out, and can eat anything and have started to gain weight again. I lift heavy weights 4x week and cardio 2x week.

I also had started to gain a lil wt back. It scared me really bad! I didn't want to fail and I more than anything wanted to succeed! So I have started back using the Lose it App and consciously exercising more. I'm doing better. Not great bcos now I'm more depressed! I don't want to have to "DIET" my whole life! I guess I didn't get that when this all started...I thought I wouldn't be able to eat enuf to gain weight!!! So dumb!!! Anyway I'm 8 months out and I've lost over 60# . Nights are the worst! Any other suggestions??? Anyone? I'm 61 and disabled with a back injury.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
