21/12/2015 Sleeved - Slow Recovery

Recommended Posts

Hi my recovery is very slow, I was sleeved on 21/12/2015, I also had gallbladder and gallstones removed at the same time. The day after surgery I had to have a stent inserted due to a blockage. So I have now entered week four, I am tired and exhausted and weak. I don't get much food down and sleep is difficult because with the stent I have to sleep upright. Although I am booked off until 22nd January 2016 I decided to back to work, thinking I should pull myself together and stop wallowing in self pity. Has anyone else had these problems and how long did full recovery take? Would you advise getting B12 shot.

Even without the complications you've had, I was still feeling pretty rough at 4 weeks out. This is major surgery and you are running on a seriously reduced caloric intake. Of course you are going to feel exhausted!

You have had major surgeries, of course you are exhausted.

Focus on getting in all of your Protein and Water so you can heal.

As to the B12 shot, that is a question for your doctor. Have you started taking your Vitamins? What does your doctor advise about your returning to work early? It sounds like to me that you still need some recovery time.

During my process to get approved for surgery my cardiologist insisted I have a PET scan that indicated I had a blockage so I went in for a heart catheter and ended up have 2 stents. My recovery from that was so easy I was shocked. In fact I have felt so much better after the stents I was surprised. Why do you have to sleep upright for your stent did they say?

My problem is that now they are making me wait 6 months after the stent for my WLS because of the blood thinner medication.

I think the OP is talking about a stent in her esophagus, not an artery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
