jennylew 9 Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) Anyone have a similar story? Had my husband rush me to the ER on Saturday because I thought I was having a heart attack. Just out of the blue I had severe chest pain right below my xiphoid process/sternum with shortness of breath. (I was on Facebook and drinking a cup of coffee.) It lasted about an hour then just vanished as quickly as it came on. All of my tests and EKG were normal, so the ER discharged me and sent me on my merry way. I called my surgeon and he thinks it sounds like a possible "internal hernia." I questioned rather he thought it might be gall stones, but he said I didn't have any of the classic symptoms. Going on Monday for "laparoscopic exploratory surgery" and whatever they find, they will repair it while they're in there. Anyone have a similar experience? If so, what did they end up finding? P.s. I am 5 months out RNY revision from Lap Band. Edited January 12, 2016 by jennylew
GAWildKat 82 Posted January 12, 2016 I had my RNY last Feb, but I got my gallbladder out Aug 2005. For 4 yrs I suffered from gallstones, until a stone blockage caused my liver to fail. I too had chest pains that seemed to mimic a mild heart attack or anxiety attack. It wasn't until I went into liver failure that a very attentive ER doc realize my gallbladder was sick. A bit over a month later my general surgeon was sitting by my bed in recovery telling me I was lucky to be alive. I had gangrene in my gall bladder and luckily it hadn't spread. Please demand an ultrasound of your abdomen before doing surgery. Ultrasounds can detect gallstones and sludge. Get well soon. Tricia

Turns out I had an internal hernia at one of the "new joints" and surgeon had to go in to repair it right away. Recovery not so bad
