You can do this! Really think about what is going on. If you want to eat but not hungry, are you bored? If so find something to do. Go clean. Go walk. Go volunteer somewhere. Are you stressed? If so do some stress relief. Go walk. Call someone. Find a way to work through your stress. Do not waste this great opportunity. Your feelings will pass. It will get easier I promise!!!!!!! Just do not give up!

Your body is wigging out right now with all these changes. Just try to go easy on yourself. You could not overeat now if you tried. Be glad of that. In a month or so, this new behavior will become second nature to you. Your relationship with food will totally change. I promise. Please don't worry. Be positive. Get rest. The very best is ahead. :)

Congratulations. You are feeling what many people felt post-op. It's a common phase to go through.

Pretty soon you'll be in another phase -- the one called, "Good heavens -- I should have done this years ago!"

:)

@@MrsSantiago - that a pretty typical feeling for most of us. For some it lasts a couple of weeks and some only a few hours. The desire to eat is probably IMHO in your head than you really being actually hungry. As the OP mentioned stay hydrated, get your Protein in and get outside/busy. You will probably feel different soon and feel like 90% of us - why did I wait (like @@VSGAnn2014 said)

good luck and hang in there~

For me it was all about distracting myself from times when I really wanted to eat. Even now as long as the weather is not to miserable I take a walk at lunch time. When my coworkers are bring back all this good smelling food I can't eat, I go to the park down the street and walk around the lake for my 45 min lunch break. It is good stress relief and gets me some exercise and I am not thinking about eating.

The councilor I saw as part of my surgery prep called this time active meditation. It's a great time to think about how far you have come and think about the next steps. You can think about all the good you have done for yourself and all the great things you can do when you get to where you want to be.

The last think they told me is that it's all about replacing bad habits with healthy habits. If you absolutely have to snack then have a good snack. Eat a piece of string cheese instead of a cookie. That's what I do. Its Protein and I peel it in little strips and eating for like 15 minutes. I make it as long a process as I can for maximum satisfaction. I think about how I would shove 10 Cookies down my throat instead of this. It's all about retraining your brain and body.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
