Is it typical to be itchy as we lose weight? I'm 12 days post op and lost 12 pounds. I'm having mild itching over much of my body. Nothing servere, just scratchy. Any suggestions?

it could be a bunch of things. If you're still taking any of the heavy duty pain killers, those make most people pretty itchy, myself included. You could be a little dehydrated, or your skin could be really dry from the weird temps that most of the US is experiencing. Or it could be that your skin is just itchy because it's retracting a little as you rapidly lose weight, like letting some air out of a full balloon (that's the best analogy I can think of. I certainly relate to it!). I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes so itchy that you're damaging your skin from scratching. Hope everything else is going well! Take care. :)

Oh, also, a suggestion: either buy or make your own sugar scrub. If it's dry skin, which is what it most likely is, a sugar scrub will feel incredible and it will exfoliate your skin so when you put on lotion after your shower, the skin will feel so much better and more moisturized.

The biggest issue early on is dehydration. Once you really get a handle on this, your skin gets much better.

As others have mentioned it is probably a combination of things: dehydration, healing, meds, etc.

Stay hydrated and use a good body oil/moisturizer. I had to make sure I kept my belly covered early out to so I wouldn't mindlessly scratch my incisions, too.

I had the same issue around 14 days post op. I was so itchy!! Turns out is is very normal and very common, due to dehydration, hormone changes and well it just being winter. I thought I was going insane I was so itchy. What worked for me though was really increasing my Fluid intake and lots and lots of cream.

Best of luck....it was pass fortunately :)

Its my savior.I bought a big jar and I slather it on allover especially on the scars from surgery. Also I massage it generosly into my scalp. It really works.I use medicated antibacterial soap then apply the coconut oil after shower.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
