I've lost 68 lbs in 4.5 months. I am the smallest I've ever been as an adult at 176.2. But at 5'1", I am not small.

I have not kept my surgery private. People are telling me "you're just wasting away... How much more are you planning to lose????"

My response is usually "yes that's the plan... I want to be a healthy weight for my height."

I get it. I don't even recognize myself sometimes but I definitely don't feel like I'm wasting away.

I'm 5'0 and the smallest I've been in my "adult" years is about 165 ish...I'm 30 lbs from that now at 196, but getting too thin was a concern of mine and my husbands also. He met me at 180 ish and likes me with some meat on my bones, so to speak. I think at our heights, a healthy weight for us is 115-130 ish. I can't imagine being that small either...

As for others saying your wasting away, I think it's because they are used to seeing you at a certain size, so of course, the smaller you get, the more you will seem too small. They will just have to get used to the new you!

What they really mean is you have lost quickly so they haven't had time to adjust to seeing the new healthy you. Congratulations and remind them it's really about health and not weight.

Yes. My boss keeps saying I'm melting away. It is a tad awkward but I know he means well.

I just had my 6-month post-op visit with my surgeon. I'm below goal now, but still near the top of the "normal" range of weight for my height (I'm 5'2" and 128 lb). My surgeon warned me not to listen to anyone who says, "Oh, you're getting too thin!" or "Don't lose any more weight!" because they are just used to seeing me really heavy, and I may lose a bit more yet so that there is some room for the "bounce" that typically happens a year or two after surgery. Someone who meets me for the first time wouldn't think that I'm too thin, just normal.

I've reached my goal weight (135/5'6) and a lot of people tell me I'm way too skinny. They're just used to seeing me heavy. They just don't know what to say. Maybe they think I like hearing it???? It's all good. I feel great. ❤️

I get it from my own family members who know how hard I've fought this battle. "DON'T GET TOO THIN" they say. They are the very same ones that said "I wish we could do something for Bobby, He's sooo heavy and can't seem to lose weight". I have told them that my surgery was well thought out AND irreversable, so I will get smaller yet. I fully realize they are going to say thing like 'You look Gaunt" or "Your face is soo drawn". My solace is that I feel so darn good now, with no CPAP machine, working knees, great sleep, good sugar numbers, good blood pressure, that I will accept the concern and try to help them understand. I like what has been said, that people who never knew us would think we look just fine.

I had a friend lose a large amount of weight. When she got under 200 lbs, people started telling her "be careful, you don't want to lose too much weight" on a regular basis. It was usually really tiny people who might have weighed 120 max. So annoying! I think people just get an image of you in their head, and they can't let go of it. If you are smaller than that, then you are 'too small.' Just ignore it. They usually mean well, even if their comments are irritating.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
