Starting regular food tomorrow! Nervous!

Recommended Posts

Any tips or tricks? Been on liquids for 3 weeks. I feel hesitant to start food...worried is it going to be uncomfortable? Would love your seasoned advice!

My suggestion is to go slow and try one new food at a time. Eat slowly, chew thoroughly, and take your time. If something doesn't work, come back to it at another time.

Hi Amandasue, I 2nd Inner Surf Girl

I'm 2 yrs out, I felt the very same as you did, always start with your Protein shakes or that's what I would suggest.

If you haven't already tried the premier Proteins, 16oz, 160 calories, 30mg Protein, 1gram sugar, highly suggest. They a are ready to drink flavored vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. I purchase mind at costco 24.99 for 18 PK. I kept some at work, carry bag etc..

***3 of these in one day meet my quota of 90mg of my doctors suggest protein. So I alway keep in stock in case I'm not Ferlinghetti well or hungry, I make sure to drink my protein which is also considered a part of our Water intake quota ????

My first meat and 1day to switch to food was on Thanksgiving day

I ate a piece of turkey w/gravy a tiny piece of ham and chewed, chewed and chewed every bite as I was so nervous and didn't really know how much I could eat.

You will know when to stop when you start to feel a burp, it's kind of hard to explain but you will know.

Other foods that I started with were that tasted good to me and good force of protein

I started slowly on soft foods, such as yogurt Fage is my favorite to this date has 22mg of protein, 0 calories, I think 7 grams of

sugar or less. That's my Breakfast daily w/honey. I need a bit of sugar as I'm hypoglycemia, add sunflower seeds sometimes for crunch, sometimes a spoon of Peanut Butter or strawberry jelly or a bit of orange juice to flavor it up, weird I know just get creative with what you like or goes with your taste buds as they will be out of control for at least 6 months from wls day.

I do different things to change things up that taste good to me, but focus on getting in protein in first, then soft veggies like streamed or sautéed broccoli, asparagus, spinach, zucchini's etc.

1 scrambled egg with butter as we need to start incorporating fat or your choice of oil. Not I can eat up to 2 or 3 scrambled. I only do 3 on days I know I have lots of running around to do to stay full before a late lunch.

tuna with fish oil

I like to mix at times in with lemon, mayo, celery and now boiled eggs.

Make a bowl, les e in fridge and eat for lunch until I run out.

I still make chicken or beef Soups with veggies and blend up and drink it as a meal.

Ground turkey meat Soup, add your preferred choice of veggies.

I like to add variety of Beans at times and make almost into a Pasta fagoli of course without Pasta.

Mozzarella cheese for Snacks

Beans smashed up or how you prefer

add cheese to flavor

Hope this helps, you will find your preferred foods, just chew away, always and wash down later with your Water

Good luck, and stay hydrated!!!

Enjoy your new menu ????

Innersurfergirl is spot on as always.

Go slow.....very slow.

like 1/2 teaspoon at a time with a minute in between to chew and wait...slow.

My go to Protein in the early days was soft flakey baked-broiled-grilled fish.

I had a nice piece today for lunch, too. Goes down easy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
