Length of stay in hospital approval letter -

Recommended Posts

My official approval letter from BCBS shows 5 days hospital stay. My surgeon told me his patients stay 2 nights. I have no idea what they requested, I assume they must have asked for 5. Or does the insurance have standard days. I'm having the sleeve, not a by-pass.

Do they just do that worse case scenario?

I have BCBS of Alabama and left 24 hours after surgery. I think the precept was for the same as well. I had the sleeve as well. Call your surgeons office, I would think that it would have been them that requested the 5 days at pre cert.

Oh and Congratulations on getting your aproval!

Please don't worry about the numer of days. The important thisg is - your insurance approved your surgery. How many days you stay depends on your surgeon. All this means is that the hospital would have to justify for medical reasons a stay longer than the number of days on the letter.

I have BCBS FEP and was also approved for five days - just in case. However, I was the first surgery on a Monday morning and went home Wednesday afternoon. It was reassuring to know that, if needed, I could have stayed five days without a battle.

Hello I am so excited and relieved ????!!!! I got my approval on January 4th. This process has been extremely simple. I have BCBS UAW. When I decided to get this I called the insurance company to find out if it was covered and the requirements. Needless to say it was covered and I met every requirement. I did not have to complete a 6 month weight loss because of my BMI. I am super excited and nervous because it all seems to be moving so fast. I started this journey in December and will have my surgery on March 8th in St Louis Mo!!!

I checked in early morning, had the sleeve around l0 a.m., slept, walked, had a leak test and was home by 4 p.m. No problems, no pain, just thankful not to be in the hospital catching staphylococcus or MRSA.

I have Aetna, but they only approve for one day, one overnight stay, so when I was still in the hospital because of anesthesia and pain meds causing oxygen issues, the hospital requested an extra day and it was easily approved.

A big hospital in Jacksonville, FL. If there are complications of course you have to stay. We were told ahead of time, in the hospital and out the same day. I was in the grocery store two days later, reading labels on food.

1 Excited, I was 66, almost three years ago. I prepared for the worst, but felt amazing being sleeved. My husband was sleeved two weeks later. We were on a really restricted diet of liquids, then soft foods, etc. seriously I went shopping within 5 days, and I remember taking a Protein Shake in a cooler, just in case. I do remember taking l pain pill at home. The surgery scares us, especially old people like me, but it was a sigh of relief feeling great. I spent hours rearranging cabinets and drawers, bored. I remember feeling like, when is it going to get bad, and it didn't!!!! Please try to relax and know a lot of people have little problems or pain. It is just the fear.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
