I was given an amount more so than a calorie limit. I'm in stage two and can intake 1-2 oz 3-4x per day. I supplement that with Protein shakes to make sure I'm getting at least 60 grams of Protein. Additionally, my Water intake is at least 60oz but usually ends up being 72 oz since I can't give up my leaded coffee.

Don't worry about calories. You should be worrying about or tracking grams of Protein. That is important now rather than calories. And much easier to track!!!

At 5 weeks my surgeon advised to have 600-800 calories per day with 60-80 grams of Protein. The emphasis being protein. You will find that if you choose items like chicken breast and fish without sauces your calories will stay well within that range.

All about the protein!

Yup, for me it was all about the Protein. A minimum of 1 gram for every inch you are tall.

If you focus on that, the rest will fall into place.

Drink lots of Water.

I feel like maybe I'm eating too many calories, but the sizes seem reasonable - approximately 2/3 of a cup per "meal". I'm getting my 60 grams of Protein in and my 20 minutes of exercise. almost 4 weeks post-op, but have only lost 23 pounds (including the shakes before the surgery). I'm going to keep at it, slow but steady. I feel that this is an eating pattern I can quite happily live with...but worry still. I can't wait for the 5 week class and nurses visit.

8 months out and I eat about 1,000-1200 a day but I run a lot so most of it is Protein to give me energy for my workout. On days I don't get a ton of exercise I scale it back to about 900 or so. For me switching it up helps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
