2 weeks and 4 days PO

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks and 4 days post op. I started back to work this week and I already feel "off track." How much should I be able to drink at this point? I am probably getting about 30 oz. of liquid and about 30-40 g of Protein. I am not hungry and most of the time when I do eat, I feel bad. I struggle with eating slow enough. Nothing really tastes good. I will call the NUT next week for a refresher, but wanted to see if I could get some input from some who have been here/done this!! OH and I have not lost in almost a week - but I have read a lot of other posts regarding this. I lost 21 pounds at my 2 week post op dr visit.

Thanks in advance...

I am at 3 weeks four days, so right with you. I constantly try to drink Water and once off of the Protein shakes have gotten more energy. I luckily enjoy the flavor of food, just don't care if I eat or not. I eat three small meals a day and sip Water in between. My cheat is a little blue bell ice cream at night. I hope your taste for food comes back. My biggest issue was previous to surgery I constantly drank only one type of Protein shake cause I liked it a lot. Kellogg brand. After surgery could not STAND IT. Had a panic oh shoot moment trying to find something I could tolerate. Became lactose intolerant. Good luck, hopefully something time will fix.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
