Oasis 8 Posted January 10, 2016 Please help me ? I am considering having the gastric sleeve op. I am overweight at 5"4inches I weigh 13.5 stone. I know this is obese but I can lose the weight. The only problem being as soon as I lose it I put it back on as I have to take steroids quite regular and these bloat me and increase my appetite. This leaves me yo yo dieting which gets me down as I am mostly overweight. I am thinking the sleeve would keep the weight off me and may even help my asthma but is it a big step to take ? Please tell me your thoughts and experience on this ???
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted January 10, 2016 Definitely learn as much as you can and talk to your surgeon about what is best for you. You mention that you take steroids. That is definitely something you need to discuss with your surgeon. Best of luck in making your decision. Keep reading and asking questions.
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted January 10, 2016 For sure check with your doctor and do some independent research on medications and weight. Because of neuropathies, I occasionally have to take Lyrica. The last time (November) I gained ten pounds in twelve days, so I just stopped and endured until I could get treatment at the pain clinic this week. I have made too much progress to gain it back so fast. Otherwise, I am pleased with my sleeve and feel so much better.
lwmatch 31 Posted January 10, 2016 Due to my age and inability to exercise because of back and knee pain, and never being able to keep the weight off with natural means or weight loss pills, the sleeve was and is my best choice. I have seen excellant results with my two sons having sleeves. Good luck with you and your choices.
brasmu02 3 Posted January 10, 2016 I met my surgeon last monday and he explained to us that the losing and gaining is why people like us need this surgery. The surgery doesn't just change the size of your stomach, it also changes different hormones and chemicals in our body. You need to speak with a professional to help you decide so you can get all the facts first. I would meet with your family doc if you have one and discuss it with them. Good luck!!!
