I am 4 weeks today and every time I drink Water it makes me sick. Even if it's small sips. How can I get more water intake? Any suggestions? I have been eating Sonic ice to help. I feel very dehydrated.

Have you tried different temperatures? Have you tried adding Water enhancers like Mio drops or crystal light? Have you tried Herb tea (mint or camomile might be good, soothing options? Have you talked to your NUT?

Plain Water was probably the hardest thing for me to drink for a long time. All I can suggest is to keep trying different variations and talk to your NUT.

It does get better.

I was having the same issue but I found that Decaf tea with stevia at room temperature goes down much easier than anything else.

Water doesn't sit well with me either, I'm almost 6 weeks out. Crystal light is much better going down but it took a few tries to find a flavor I could tolerate. fruit punch and strawberry lemonade have been good to me!

Plain Water has never sat well with me either and I am a year and a half post op.

Like some others posted- trying different temperatures may help. Some people do better with cold and others with warm or Hot Drinks. I have always needed mine very cold.

Also, try adding flavor drops to your water. Or even try different ones like propel, sobe', or Vitamin water. I did the best with propel.

Hang in there- this is like one big experiment; just gotta find what works for you!!!

Good luck

I had the hardest time taking in Water. Someone on this forum suggest I try SOBE. strawberry Dragonfruit is my favorite. They are zero calorie and taste great.

I go to Target and buy out the entire shelf of strawberry Dragonfruit. Don't try to drink a lot at once, try to take small sips.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions!! I tried room temperature Water this morning and it didn't make me gag. But I still couldn't drink a lot. I tried crystal light lemonade today it was okay. It took me an hour to drink 6 oz. I will try the other suggestions. Once again thank you. I loved water before surgery and so that's why I am having a hard time.

Preop I drank Water with crystal lite or dasani drops. Post op, it felt like it was choking me. I finally upped my Fluid intake work 20 oz of Decaf u sweet tea, 10 oz fat free Fairlife milk(protein!), and 20 oz of water with orange slices. I now drink mostly regular water with orange slices, as the flavored water still is hard for me, but that combo is what I had to do to initially up my intake!

I buy the lemon juice in a bottle and give my water bottle a pretty big splash of it every morning. It's just enough taste to satisfy me and it's supposed to do wonderful things for our body. Also, when I get bored of that, I do crushed ice with very, very little Water and squirt Dasani's pineapple coconut flavored drops and enjoy every little piece of crushed ice and pretend I'm in Key West having a Piña Colada!! Bonus!!!!!

It does get better with time but like our food, we create a new normal. At three years out I still don't like ice water except on rare occasions and even then I sip it. I mostly prefer room temperature or warmer beverages and I need some kind of flavoring. I drink a lot of Hint brand water.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
