10 Days Post-Op: Amount of Food

Recommended Posts

I'm a little freaked out...I had about 3/4 to a cup worth of mashed potatoes that were thinned out with chicken broth (apple sauce consistency) in 15 mins. Not even 2 weeks out yet. Should I be concerned with that amount? I know this is stretching it, but is it possible to blow out your staple line? Thank you in advance! My anxiety and newbie status got the best of me.

I'm not sure what you are asking. But, I think you are saying, did I eat too much?

Are you in discomfort? Knowing what the last bite feels like is important and I think it takes some getting used to.

My understanding is that if rupture your line, you will become super ill pretty fast. Fever and pain. That's all I got...

Thank you! The uncertainty of not knowing my new limits coupled with my anxiety is not helping! Haha

Did you portion out that much or did you keep going back for more? Just measure out 1/3 cup of food and put the rest away before you start eating. At this point, you're not eating to get full and need to measure everything.

I portioned that amount out.

I'm just nervous that I did something wrong or damaged my sleeve.

As my Dr. told me, liquefied food doesn't stop in the stomach but passes right thru into the small intestine and that I would not get a full feeling unless I eat something that will layer in the stomach.

Thank you! I emailed my nutritionist but I don't expect to hear back by Monday. That makes me feel a bit better.

Well, I always say ask your nutritionist, but my team says 1/3 cup of food at each meal for the first six months. I'm five months out now and I'm full on 1/3 cup of food - there's no way I could eat one cup. My advice would be to start getting used to 1/3 cup of food at each meal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
