What was your diet like 2 weeks before surgery? My doc has no limitations until the day before. And I feel like I am eating everything in sight and want to eat my favorite foods "one more time".

My pre-op diet was high Protein low carb (no starches).

If your surgeon didn't give you a pre-op diet then you should be ok. Just make sure you follow his or her instructions.

As to wanting to eat everything in site, that is very common. Believe me when I tell you, you will get to eat again. It will be a while, but you won't starve.

My diet was high Protein, low carbs, consisting of Premier Protein shakes (4-5 per day), sugar free pudding with a scoop of Protein Powder added, sugar free popsicles, chicken and beef broth, and Kroger Carbmaster yogurt. I was on my pre-surgery diet for 3 weeks, because I was awaiting approval by my insurance, was hoping for an end of December surgery date, and if approved quickly, my surgeons office wasn't sure if I would have surgery the week of Christmas or the week after. As it turned out, I was approved, and was scheduled for December 28.

I'm one week into my 2 week preop diet. It consists of 2 shakes a day either Protein or no sugar carnation instant Breakfast, nonfat yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, steamed or raw veggies and fruit. ( they gave a couple of different meal plans switching up the servings on these so the amount varies). I can also have up to 64 oz of low calorie sugar free fluids like crystal light, unsweetened iced tea, Water, sf Jello, sf popsicle, or broth.< /p>

My pre op was a liquid diet. I could have up to five Protein Shakes, broth, sugar free Popsicles, Water, hmmm... I'm thinking...... that's about it.

Oh ya anything sugar free.

I have also have not been given a preop diet, although I am going to try & follow the low carb, high Protein diet most people do.

My question is what are the restrictions the day before the surgery? Do most people go liquid only?

My surgeon has all his patients follow a two week high Protein, low fat, low carb diet. My clinic has made it very easy for us, in that they have a store where you buy your entire two week diet for under 100.00. It has been a wonderful stress reliever to have everything I need, on hand and easy to prepare.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
