Weight Loss Has Stalled WHY?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 22 October 2015 and have only lost 17lbs (8kgs) - I dont have a great deal to loose so it may just be slower for me.

My start weight was 94.7kgs = 208lbs - current weight 86.2kgs = 182lbs ideal weight for my height which is 177cms - 74kgs = 163lbs.

Is it possible I could be having a problem because I dont take Protein powder and I dont drink heaps of Water either? I have had the the horrible dumping when I eat eggs or have anything sweet even a mug of coffee with one sugar sends me off.

Any suggestions would be great - thank you to you all and good luck with your journey.

How much Protein do you intake a day? How much are you exercising?

Protein is vital post bariatric surgery. When protein intake is not adequate the body compensates by breaking down lean body mass. As lean body mass diminishes your metabolism slows down.

Everyone loses at a different rate. The more overweight you are typically the greater your loses will be for the first several months post op. Make sure to follow up with your nutritionist and/or surgeon to see what they recommend to upstart your weight loss again.

Everyone loses at different rates and stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight.

That said, it is critical that you get in enough Protein and Water in order to heal and for weight loss.

Whether or not you use Protein supplements, you still need to reach your protein target every day and get at least 64 oz. of Fluid.

What does your surgeon and NUT say about your progress so far?

Embrace the Stall!

First I would like to say congrats on your choice for being health and I would like to encourage you to talk to your doctor it is vital that you get in your Protein and Water without that your body breaks down and do not heal properly. Your weight lost may be at a stall but your going to have that . Are you tracking your food intake ? My fitness pal is excellent for that . Please keep us posted and good luck .

Stalls are part of this journey. Your body does not want to give in to your new ways without rearing it's opinion too. Just stay the course. Follow the rules. Be diligent about logging food, drinking Water, focusing on Protein intake, exercising and sleep. The scale will move again!!!! Do not give up. I've had stalls that lasted one week and I've had one that lasted a month. Just stay the course. You got this.

im kind of surprised you even had the surgery if thats all the weight you had to lose. I had to be more than 100lbs overweight to qualify for it.

I'm in a similar boat. My surgery was in July and I was 218 lbs preop....currently 163 and have completely stalled. I wonder if it's because we weren't as heavy as some individuals. Absolutely no offense to anyone.. .my nut recommends 2 meals, 2 shakes, 1 snack if necessary per day. I also have been having a cocktail on the weekends whoops! Maybe that's why...

Are you eating 4-5 small meals a day? I have hit road bumps when I don't eat 5 meals per day. Got to keep the metabolism working! :) Good luck!

I think you are right Reese. I still have fear in eating too much and Im probably not taking in enough for my body to allow me to lose some. Im going to try to make sure I get five small Protein meals in. I also need to up my cardio game.

I have the same worries, although I do have a bit more than you to lose. Heaviest weight was 243lbs with a surgery weight of 235lbs. I am aiming for 154lbs. Surgery was at the end of Nov 2015 and so far have lost 25lbs since surgery but for the past few weeks have stalled ???? Seeing the dietician today so hopefully will get some advice. I can literally eat whatever I want and do not feel too much restriction so I am constantly watching portions. I didn't have this surgery and think it would be an easy ride (previously had a gastric band and had lost over 100lbs until the band failed - twice) but this is a lot harder than I thought ????

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
