Hello

I was wondering if anyone is having trouble sleeping with their cpap machine? I'm supposed to be sleeping at least 4 hrs with it on but I wake up with the mask off.. or fall asleep before putting the mask on. When I do have it on I wake up in the night to use the bathroom. Or because the mask is making my nose itchy..or my daughter wakes up. Sigh. The lung specialist needs to see my last month's log so he can give the ok n I'll have my date. I have a feeling that won't be happening now. I feel very disappointed.

I would explain the situation ...small child at home, up to bathroom etc.

Trust me he has seen it all before and it should not have a negative effect. He will just analyze the data you have logged.

Good luck!

Shop for a better mask. The fabric one was the most comfortable for me. In short yes I had problems with it, but experimenting with the best accessories for you is worth a small investment.

This is the one I used. You might want to look into a new pillow esp. if you are a side sleeper.

How long have you had the CPAP? Has it only been one month? I have the same problem as you. I will wake up and I have unknowingly taken the mask off at night and thrown it in the floor.

Of course I can't say for sure but not only will your doctor look at your stats, so will your insurance company. I must have a 70% compliance rate or they will not pay for the machine. I've had mine since May and I have always met the goal. I am waiting on them to approve my surgery and I'm sure they will look to see if I have been using my machine. Insurance companies are always looking for a reason not to pay.

If you get up to use the bathroom, you are supposed to turn it off and then back on when you get back in bed.

I know it's hard because I HATE my machine but it does take some time to get used to. OCKPirates link has a mask that doesn't look bad at all!

You will have to find something that works for you and give it some time. You will have to make a conscience effort to put it on before you go to sleep. Even after surgery, you will still need to use the machine until the weight is lost but even people who are not overweight have sleep apena.

Thanks everyone! I will explain everything at my next appointment. I will look into a new pillow and mask asap. I really scared they won't allow me to.have surgery next month because of this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
