Strength training & cardio before surgery

Recommended Posts

I met with my nutritionist & surgeon on 1/7 all went well. I'm on my way to a "Healthier" Me! One of the things they suggested was going to the gym toning prior to surgery, Due to the rapid weight loss & sagging skin.

They stated most people that did this had better results. Has anyone in the forum experienced this?

Yep, and that is great advise. You want to be in the best possible shape before surgery. Put on as much muscle mass as you can (you will inevitably lose some the first month). It makes it easier for the surgeon and your recovery.

It worked for me. I was up and walking about 20 minutes after waking up.

I walked everyday for an hour and four days in the gym on elliptical and lifting as heavy as I could for the last three weeks before surgery.

Listen to OKCPIrate.

He's spot on about this....and anything else you seem him post on.

Rock solid citizen.

I'm eager to get rolling with weight training....surgeon's approval pending later this month when he checks my repaired hernia & sleeve progress.

Have anyone heard of the surgeon ordering Physical therapy after surgery for strength training? I guess this way you would not have to pay for a personal trainer, your insurance would pay for it.

No. But I have heard of a doctor prescribing exercise. Our local wellness center (affiliated with a hospital) has reduced rates for people who are referred through their doctor either with a prescription or a form they provide to doctors.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
