Need a Healthy Snack

I found these parmesan crisps at costco - Whisps. 100 calories for 15 crackers. 9g Protein. 0g sugar. 7g fat. Satisfies the need to crunch and after a couple I don't want anymore. Have yet to eat 15 as a portion.

I eat Attain Nutrition Bars by Melaleuca. They are really good and there are a couple of different varieties. I am going more for the Protein factor but they are crunchy and satisfying.

costco has individual bags of beef Jerky around 100 calories in each. They also have individual hummus packs with crackers.

My replacement for the sugary cereal (since Monday) has been carrots, cukes and celery dipped in hummus (5 measured tablespoons). Had a little smoked salmon (2 oz) one day to mix it up.

I know I am the exception and I do not recommend this for others...but I stopped tracking about 4-5 months post op. I had a NUT who should probably be a counselor because she knew I had a history. ..had tracked on a and off since I was 8 years old. It was part of my history of failure. It scared me to stop but my losses actually accelerated.

I really appreciate this thread because Andrews story of tracking , yet gaining is my freaking life story. Reducing sugar, reducing snacky crappy processed food has been instrumental.

So, KEEP TRACKING if that has been your success story but the quality of food does matter too! I feel like I eat like royalty now - no cheapo lousy food for me and for the most part, I maintain.

"Quality of food" is huge, cowgirl.

Early in the process, my surgeon stressed that the surgery won't help with food choices and how it's my responsibility to control that part.

While I'm proud of my food choices, it continues to be difficult avoiding all of the junk food from my past.

I think my 6-month sugary cereal thing was my biggest slip back to the old habits. Just glad I cut it out before it got out of control.

@@James Marusek, thank you for sharing your journey, thoughts and observations, and especially your 'recipe' for the anti-hunger essential oils that you use. I am only 5 months post-op, but I haven't lost any weight since a couple of weeks before Christmas. Baking is and was my downfall. I am finding it really hard to get back to healthy eating. I crave sugar and sweet treats. I think the essential oils are just what I need for a little boost to get back on track and start losing the rest of this weight.

Hi, me again. What are everyone's favorite Protein powders? I really like unjury. Their chicken Soup flavour got me through the first couple of months. It's so expensive though. I tried whey Iso Burst from GNC, vanilla, chocolate, and unflavoured. Yuck to all of them, except maybe the chocolate. Any other favorites out there?

@Marandogs will your recipe work with non-dairy milk, ie almond milk? I've been craving something sweet that's not a shake or plain applesauce.

Since my original posting 1.5 weeks ago, I'm down 5 pounds as a result of cutting out sugary cereal. While my daily calories are down a little, carbs are down 50 - 75 daily, which I think was the problem.

Thanks again for the great snacking recommendations. I've replaced the cereal with celery, cukes, and/or carrots dipped in hummus.

Anyone who thinks long-term WLS success is based on a "single, silver bullet" solution like "just track your calories" or "just get in 10,000 steps a day" or "just eat 100 grams of protein" or "just drink 100 ounces of Water a day" or "just [insert your favorite single, silver bullet solution here]" will likely eventually get their comeuppance.

What matters is all of it: calories, Protein, hydration, good nutrition, supplements, exercise, positive attitude, support, mindfulness, etc.

And what also matters is what @@Andrew0929 has demonstrated in this thread: (1) noticing when something's gone haywire and (2) trying something different to fix it. So impressive.

NYLux12: I've never made the Protein cake in a cup with almond milk, but I don't see why it would not work fine. It's really just about getting it moist. The critical ingredients are Protein powder and baking powder. I also like adding the sugar free Syrup for taste. But I would think any kind of milk would be fine for moistening.

I'm a big fan of Fage 0% with fruit. It's tasty and has lots of Protein. You could also have Fage o% plain and add a mix of nuts and splenda.

This is what I do....the Fage offers the Protein and no fat and for me, Nature Valley Protein granola adds the crunch...like an eighth of a cup just for the crunch factor. Some blueberries and I'm way happy.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life.       Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
