Obsessing over numbers - constantly seeking a loss

Recommended Posts

Anyone else constantly thinking about the numbers? I had a 11 pound loss over a 4 day period and now 2-3 days of no loss and completely bummed out.

How do you guys refocus or cope during a stall

Hi. I am 8 weeks post op. It's easy to fall into a mental funk of sorts after seeing a big loss then sticking for a few days. I've come to realize that is my normal pattern of losing. I seem to lose every other week. For the first few weeks I had some emotional ups and downs. But now that I know this is how my body is going to roll I have accepted it. Up until 3 days ago I hadn't lost anything for 9 days. I was almost was convinced my weight loss was done 8 weeks out... over dramatic yes lol! That was my longest go between with no weight loss so far. Now I've lost a couple lbs and expect to stop soon for another week.

Hang in there. You'll figure out a pattern of sorts. :)

DO NOT step on the scale. If the numbers drive you crazy, then don't look at the numbers. It's as simple as that! There's no reason for you to have to be weighing daily. Some people do weigh daily and handle it just fine, because they understand fluctuations in their weight and average loss over time. Some people just can't handle it, become obsessive, and drive themselves crazy. Sounds like you are in the latter category. So stay off the scale. If you want to monitor your weight loss, weigh once a month and not more frequently than that. You might also want to take your full measurements once a month as well.

It is a completely new way of thinking from our previous dieting life. That control we think we feel when we obsess about numbers is an illusion anyway.

If you want to obsess about something, focus on your Protein and Water numbers.

Stay off the scale.

Follow your program.

Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, every day.

Take your Vitamins, and supplements as directed.

Exercise when cleared.

Embrace the Stall!

I will tell you to stay off the scale and don't worry but that's the pot calling the kettle black. At 15 1/2 months out and below goal, I will admit I still have an obsession with numbers. I know I need to stop losing but I just can't get over seeing the scale go down. I'm working on it. Just keep following your program and you'll be fine but I completely understand what you're going through.

I also check the scale daily. Im trying to break the habit as I am below goal but I know theres a number I never want to go over. Depending on how far out you are makes a difference. It came in spurts for me all the time. A couple days nothing then boom 5 lbs down.

I do. But I also find it interesting watching my weight fluctuate. I've weighed myself every day, and recorded it (fitbit). I can then see how my weight normally functions during the week so I don't stress out about it so much. If that makes sense.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
