Can't handle the vitamins

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to get my barbaric multi Vitamin and chalky Calcium chewable down with hit and miss success. Some days I can handle one but not the other no matter how long in between I wait. They are so disgusting to chew I sometimes gag on them and throw them up. Any suggestions other than trying another brand. When can we swallow a regular vitamin?

I was allowed to swallow real Vitamins at 7 days post-op. You shouldn't be taking your multi-Vitamin and Calcium within 2 hours of one another. Iron (in the multi-vitamin) and Calcium compete for absorption.

For my bariatric Multi-Vitamin, I take Vitaleph. And for my calcium, I take Citrical Plus D3 Maximum. Make sure you are taking calcium citrate and not calcium carbonate.

My bariatric Vitamins were hideous tasting horse pills (Bariatric Advantage AE). I tried cutting them in half and I tried cutting them in quarters. I mashed them up with a mortar and pestle and stirred it into applesauce. Blech!!!!

So, I my doctor let me try Flintstone chewables, but I came up a little short on my B Vitamins with the next blood labs. I switched to a Walgreen's brand for women over 50, plus folic acid supplements, sublingual B12, and D3. I also get Walgreen's brand of chewable Calcium plus D. They have it in caramel or chocolate. Both are ok.

My December (year two) blood labs were perfect.

I'm with you. I can't hardly stand the taste of my chewable Multivitamin and calcium. So, to be honest...I only take them about once per week. I know that I need to take them every day, but it's difficult when you don't like the taste. And I have trouble buying a different brand since I spent a lot of money on these.

I would gag everyday taking them until my apt with NUT, she told me about patchmd.com .. It's a lifesaver for me. Just place a patch on the back of my shoulder each day

My NUT has me on the Flintstone's chewables and so far, so good for me. The best Calcium I have had is the Bariatric Advantage Calcium Chewy bites in chocolate. Tastes just like a chocolate truffle to me. The lemon ones are good too.

I might have to give those a try bc I can't stand mine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
